I. How stress affects your body?
A. According to Lila Havens a writer of the Optum Health news section, stress has a huge impact on your, Digestive system, Heart, Immune system and Weight.
B. In your Digestion system-
1. Stress hormones slow the release of stomach acid and interfere with how well the stomach can empty itself. This can cause stomachaches. These same hormones cause the colon to work faster and may lead to diarrhea.
C. Heart
2. High levels of the stress hormone cortisol increase your heart rate and your blood pressure. Cortisol can also raise your cholesterol levels. These factors raise your risk for heart attacks and strokes.
D. Immune system because
3. Normally, your immune system responds to infections by releasing chemicals that aid in the healing process. The stress response weakens your immune system, slowing wound healing and making you more likely to get colds and infections.
E. How it affects your weight
4. Cortisol makes you crave fats and carbohydrates, which can cause you to gain weight. Cortisol also makes you more likely to put on weight in your abdominal area. Weight gain in this area raises your risk for heart disease and diabetes.

Transition Phrase: If you’re seen with toilet paper attached to the bottom of your shoe as you leave the bathroom and feel it is the most humiliating experience of your life and that you have to be absent from school for the next three weeks to recover, then you will feel stress because of the way you thought and felt about the situation.
