Standing about as tall as a basketball hoop, I was amazed by its slender appearance. The shadow was engulfing, and full of mystery. Pure fear was written on my face and I tried to run away. Something kept my legs from moving as I stood there frozen as a statue. “Who’s there?” I whispered. The figure did not move, but let out a soft murmur that I did not comprehend. The shadow started to move out of the darkness. It was not a monster, but a man. As his face hit the moonlight I recognized him right away. He was a man that once meant the world to me, but was left without warning. I had not heard from him or heard about him in over two years, but that never kept me from thinking of him. I would lay awake at night wondering what happen to him and if he was doing well. Now out of nowhere he appears out of the darkness, and I cannot even open my mouth to say a single word to the man who changed my life. Now completely visible I see that he has not changed. I finally had control over my body and I opened my mouth to speak. “Where in the hell have you been?! Do you think you can just pick up and leave one day without telling me where you are going or why you are leaving?” I screamed at him as tears started to roll down my face. I was so furious and ecstatic at the same time, if that is even possible. “Well?!” I shouted expecting a response. Instead, I felt his arms cloak themselves around my body. It was at that moment I decided that all of those questions did not matter. I did not care where he had been, why I had not seen him in years, and why he now decided to come back into my life. What did matter was that his arms were my castle. We stood together, intertwined for what seemed hours, but I did not mind. His scent invaded my nostrils- that sweet scent of what reminded me of spearmint and eucalyptus. He pushed me gently away, and positioned his hand in mine. We walked as he caught me up on the past two years of his life. He told me how he relocated, bought a new house, and made his living from doing odd jobs. Every word he said to me, I absorbed like a sponge. We walked for hours trying to catch up for lost time.
