Interior Monologue
Him leaving was like the last note of a symphony- you knew it was ending, but you hoped for an encore. I flashed back to where I was earlier that evening, and how I longed to be there again. I remember that I was sitting in my dorm room. Dreading the homework that sat on my desk. I could feel it staring me in the face. I heard it calling my name, breathing down my neck to the point where I was so uncomfortable I jumped out of my chair and stormed out of the room. Slamming the door as I left, I grumbled to myself as I paced down my hall. Not having any sense of direction, I ended up going down the steps outside into the cold, night air. I remember stopping and taking a deep breath. I felt the damp air flow through my nostrils and back out again. …show more content…
Standing about as tall as a basketball hoop, I was amazed by its slender appearance. The shadow was engulfing, and full of mystery. Pure fear was written on my face and I tried to run away. Something kept my legs from moving as I stood there frozen as a statue. “Who’s there?” I whispered. The figure did not move, but let out a soft murmur that I did not comprehend. The shadow started to move out of the darkness. It was not a monster, but a man. As his face hit the moonlight I recognized him right away. He was a man that once meant the world to me, but was left without warning. I had not heard from him or heard about him in over two years, but that never kept me from thinking of him. I would lay awake at night wondering what happen to him and if he was doing well. Now out of nowhere he appears out of the darkness, and I cannot even open my mouth to say a single word to the man who changed my life. Now completely visible I see that he has not changed. His hair is still as black as coal, and his eyes so dark they practically match his hair. What I remember most was his lips. They were symmetrically shaped, and as red as …show more content…
I finally had control over my body and I opened my mouth to speak. “Where in the hell have you been?! Do you think you can just pick up and leave one day without telling me where you are going or why you are leaving?” I screamed at him as tears started to roll down my face. I was so furious and ecstatic at the same time, if that is even possible. “Well?!” I shouted expecting a response. Instead, I felt his arms cloak themselves around my body. It was at that moment I decided that all of those questions did not matter. I did not care where he had been, why I had not seen him in years, and why he now decided to come back into my life. What did matter was that his arms were my castle. We stood together, intertwined for what seemed hours, but I did not mind. His scent invaded my nostrils- that sweet scent of what reminded me of spearmint and eucalyptus. He pushed me gently away, and positioned his hand in mine. We walked as he caught me up on the past two years of his life. He told me how he relocated, bought a new house, and made his living from doing odd jobs. Every word he said to me, I absorbed like a sponge. We walked for hours trying to catch up for lost time.
