If a child or adolescent loses it will build character and teach them that everything in life is not handed to them right away. They need to know that not everything in life is fair. Before someone can win, they have to learn from their mistakes and improve to move forward. Children will learn that working hard will lead to success in life. A lot of peoples goal is to become their favorite athlete, but it is rare. Not everyone has the skill or ambition to become what they desire to be.
Adolescents want to know that they worked hard to receive something big, a trophy or an award. However there are lazy adolescents who want to win, but in order to win, they need to put in the effort.
