This article is named “It’s only me”. It was written by Nancy Gibbs and it was published in “Time Magazine” 19 March 2001
The main subject in this article is school shootings. School shootings are very common in American schools.
One of the reasons why school shootings are so common is because the children get inspired by each other or they are get bullied. The children feel that they have a sort of power if they bring a gun to school. I think that holding and carrying a gun in such a young age should be completely out of their range because they cannot control it and many of them do not even know what they are doing. Many children play violent videogames, like Grand Theft Auto, which you have to be 18-years-old to play but many children are able to play then anyway.
This inspires some of them and in some situations it goes too far, just like we have seen.
Many people in the United States carry guns at home to protect themselves; some of them even sleep with them loaded under their pillows. But that is why the children are able to bring their parents’ guns to school.
Nancy Gibbs has written many articles like this one “The columbine tapes” which is also about school shootings.
This article is about different episodes of school shootings, The Columbine High School Massacre, shootings at Santana High School. She mentions many examples in the article to illustrate that this happens very often. Gibbs also mentions that a 6-year-old girl brought a gun to kindergarten. She does that to tell that this can happen to everyone, anywhere and anytime.
