Jessie Monologue
I didn’t really know what happened during the fire. All I heard was T.J. getting injured and going to jail. Mama told me that The Logans and The Wallices were putting out the fire and how T.J. went to jail. “Mama,” I asked softly. “Why did T.J. go to jail?”
Mama put her arm around me. “Honey, he did some bad stuff. He had to be punished.” Somber and quietly, Mama woke up. “Danny, go wake up Harley and Jessie. It's time for breakfast.” Harley and Jessie were my brother sister. Jessie liked going by Jess even though he knew he would get picked on because of the nickname. He was 17 and he did not have a care in the world. Harley is the youngest out of us. She acts like she is the responsible one it the family even though she is only 9. I am the middle child. Danny Jones.

“I guess we will never know.” Pointed out Jessie. As we were walking to school, we saw someone. All of a sudden, Manny-Wills came walking up to us in a rude manner. “How you doin’ Jess?” Manny-Wills asked. Jessie ignored him. “Hey Jess, why is your name Jessie? Isn’t that a girls name?” Manny-Wills anteginised. “Shut up Manny. You can even count to ten so why you bothering me?” Insulted Jessie. “Man I was jus’ joking! Don’t take it so seriously!” Manny-Will joked. I never liked Manny-WIlls. In fact, I think he is bad news. He’s kinda a jerk to Jessie.
“Whatcha doin’?” asked Manny-WIlls.
“Going to school. What are you gonna do?” asked Jessie.
”After school, I’m going up to the Wallace store.”. Bragged Manny-Wills. The Wallace store is owned by Mr. Wallace, Melvin, and R.W. They were also known as the “Night Men.” “Man you knew what happened to T.J. so you need to stay away from them whites.” Yelled Jessie. “Man jus’ be quiet. You don’ know nothin’!” Argued Manny-Wills Jessie was fired up about what Manny-Wills said. He suddenly pushed Jessie out of the way. “What do you think you doin’?” Jessie

He reiterates several times throughout the film, “I don’t train girls” (Million Dollar Baby). Knowing that Maggie is a girl, he refuses to train her, but he also disputes the idea because she reminds him so much of his daughter. Frankie sees how driven she is about having him train her, and at first that annoys him. She refuses to quit asking him to train her until she completely convinces him that she is worth taking a chance on. She shows up everyday and beats up the punching bag that is hanging in the gym. She begins to call Frankie “boss” to annoy him into giving in, even after he tells her, “I’m not your boss” (Million Dollar Baby). She asks him if she were to stop calling him boss, would he train her. After he says no, she retorts, “Then I might as well keep calling you it!” The more he sees Maggie in the gym practicing her hits, the more she reminds him of Kate. He fears that if he were to actually allow himself to care about Maggie and let her into his heart, he could lose her just like he lost Kate. He also knows that if he trains her, she is more inclined to be seriously hurt because she is a girl, and he wouldn’t forgive himself if anything were to happen to her. He notices as the days go by that Maggie’s swings are looking better than before, but he…
