Job Coach Position
I am a full-time student at Eastern Washington University (Vancouver Campus), although I have 20 years’ experience in the medical field I have decided to change my path and pursue a degree in Social work. I find this to be a great opportunity to combine my knowledge and passion of helping others and their medical needs to helping others find the resources and tools to help themselves.
I have looked over your website, especially your Core Values and Purpose section and feel like I could not only learn a tremendous amount from your organization but that I also have so much to offer as well. I am mostly interested in your Job Coach position as I feel like it would be a great opportunity for me as a future social worker.

The significant factors that influenced my choice of social work as a profession was after the death of my mother. Growing up, my mother always stressed on the importance of education. She made sure we never missed a day in school, we were expected to go to school even when we were very sick. My mother's perseverance and encouragements contributed to all her seven children becoming college graduates. My mother’s tragic event ultimately led to my interest in social work.…

In order to become fully aware of the biology associated with social work, there are a number of things I need to learn more about. First, I would need to become familiar with the DSM-V, which is the most common source used to diagnose mental health conditions. My mother has a copy of the previous version and it would be great to educate myself on even more conditions than we discussed in this class prior to entering the workforce. Also, I feel it would be important to dive deeper into the study of various diseases and how they impact human behavior, perhaps through a public health course here at RIC. Although I knew it would be very valuable for me to learn about these topics, it became even more evident after doing the case studies together.…

I currently work in the field of mental health and substance abuse as a crisis counselor. I had seriously thought about going back to school to get my masters in social work after talking to making social work co-workers. However there were many aspects of the job that I disliked, but I wanted…

Reflecting back on this course, my impression on the field of Social Work embraces that this fields rests far more diverse and incriminated into society than I previously thought; “Not only do they help the individuals cope with the situation at hand, they advocate for them and seek out valuable resources and other means of support for the affected person(s)” (XXX). Prior to this course, I detained a misconception that social workers predominantly counseled individuals, when in reality, social workers integrate collaboration, advocacy, investigating, counseling, planning, monitoring, and organizing into their occupational responsibilities. Assisting in a vast array of societal facets, social workers rely on theories and frameworks to pilot…

The opportunity I have had to pursue an Honors Specialization in Anthropology at Western has allowed me to have an expansive examination, through course work, of experiences of the philosophical and phenomenological. My knowledge level has naturally increased through my Western experience as, I believe, has my wisdom. I have enhanced both my rhetorical skills and my competence in critical analysis. The study of anthropology has given me a clearer sense of the intersection of issues, from structure to ideology and from cultures of interest to values which shapes my research interests. The addition of the Bachelor of Social Work program has allowed me to attain theoretical models of social work intervention to the 20 years of practical experience that I have had in the social service field. The blending of an anthropological and a social work perspective will allow me to have a more multidisciplinary approach to my future research in order to create a more holistic intervention…
