Jogho Movie Review
Asian films are microcosm of the Asian people. Basically, it focuses on four aspect including gender roles, paradoxical belief system, inherent pathos of life and the message in the film. With the close reference to Jogho film, we will discuss further on the above aspect.
In Asian culture, roles and responsibilities are different for each gender. Man is being considered as the leader of the family. Hence, the role of a man is to take care of the family in which they are responsible to earn and provide money for the family. Only man can decide on anything that happened in the family. Woman on the other hand is being portrays as weak. The role of a woman is to take care of the husband and the children. They did not have any right to voice out their opinion on anything because the role of the wife is to obey their husband even if their husband had done the wrong thing. For example in the film ‘Jogho’ , Mak Minah did not have the right to say anything when Pok Mat involve in the bullfight’s gambling and when all the money that is left is being used as bet in the bullfight.
“aku yakin kito ado rezeki kali ni, mg cayo la minoh. Sabik tu aku beghani taghuh sghemonyo skali”.
“abe, pitih ni jah hok tinggal, habih hok ni makey daun getoh la kito anok bghanok”.
“minoh, mung ni lasung xdok daghoh pejuwengey, mung tok soh duk rusing, kito anok bghanok tok key kebulur”.
We can clearly see that even though Mak Minah already told Pok Mat to stop gambling because they have no money left, Pok Mat suddenly get angry toward Mak Minah by saying that Mak Minah is not being supportive and do not have trust towards him. Pok Mat did not listen to what Mak Minah said and still continue with the bullfight’s gambling. Most of the men in the film are so obsessed with the bullfight. They even neglect their family just because of the bull. Pok Mat in the film is so obsessed with his bull. Even when he falls sick, the first thing that he asks when he woke up is whether they had fed
