Jozui's Argument Analysis
Jozui’s argument in this quote is that advertising that use celebrities to endorse or promote the product is not effective at all and rather insulting to the person watching said advertisement. She also argues that because this is insulting to the consumer, there should be rules and guidelines for advertisers to follow so that the advertisement is more effective and does not at all insult the viewer’s intelligence at all. I agree with Jozui’s argument that celebrities endorsing and promoting products is not effective at all and is insulting to the consumer. I agree with her because many times, these advertisements not focus on the product at hand and what it actually does and instead just focuses on the fact that a celebrity is with the product. And great example of this from the recent Pepsi commercial with Kendall Jenner. This advertisement had many people marching down a street protesting “something” and these protesters march past Jenner. She is distracted by this march and is invited to join in. She then picks up a Pepsi and starts to walk among the crowd. Then she approaches the police containing the protest and hands him a Pepsi. And because of that there is peace, according to this advertisement. This …show more content…
A perfect example of this is the Wheaties cereal brain. The cereal brain puts famous athletes on the cover of their cereal boxes. They also suggested that all these athletes eat this cereal and that if you ate it, you could become like these athletes. This type of advertisement is extremely insulting to the customer. But at the same time, many people purchase Wheaties just because there is a famous athlete on the front. The never consider other more important factors like price or nutrition.     Someone may think is this way marketing is unfair but try imagining yourself as a business owner. A new business owner trying to get their young business off the ground and a celebrity happens to actually enjoy your product and wants to be in a commercial. If this type of marketing is banned, this could hurt the business trying to get a boost for their products.
