I have to stop dead in my tracks because someone cuts in front of me. I have ran for about two minutes and we are going around a big turn. I am thinking for no reason at all that this isn’t going to be a good race. I am tired already which is also not a good sign. The grass and mud are slushy from the snow and rain. My shoes are now twice the weight because by now they are soaking wet. Up ahead there is a big mound of mud. It’s supposed to be a packed down pile of dirt but not after this weather. I’m wishing I had taken my sweatshirt off because as I predicted, I am already sweating even in 25 degree weather. I can almost see the finish line now but I feel like I’m going to die. It looks like we go around in circles for about five minutes. So I guess seeing the start doesn’t mean we are close. I see the first girl finishing already. I need to pick up the pace but I’m not sure if my body can physically handle it. I pick it up for a little while and then slow down again because I can’t handle how tired I am. I am turning onto the last 100 meter stretch. I think to myself… “I came all this way I might as well put all I have into it and finish
