Key Concepts In Molly's Case Vignette

Molly is a fifth-grade student who recently moved to a new school and neighborhood. Molly’s characteristics set her aside from her classmates who have all been friends since kindergarten. Molly is shy, somewhat overweight, and she enjoys playing the violin every day. One day during her gym class, she was approached by three girls who then started to throw a ball at her leading her to fall back and twist her wrist. Full of embarrassment she started to cry and ran from the room. That night, she was in the proses of doing her homework when she stumbled upon a picture of her on Instagram with the caption “Fat Molly on her butt.” Molly was nervous about going to school the next day as she avoided telling her parents because she feared they would make a big deal at school. When she arrived at school she felt a bid dizzy and when the girls where coming towards her in the hall, she became sick and ended up in the nurse’s office wanting to go home. There is an explanation to the events that led up to this moment and key concepts of theory’s that can help us better understand the cause and affects.

There are a few concepts that present themselves in Molly’s case vignette. Such as Modeling, mirror neuron system, self-efficacy, and emotional components of agency.
The emotional components of agency states that, “one’s sensitivity to threats or positive encouragement is the environment, may impact one’s motivation or confidence.” (B. Newman & P. Newman, 2016, p 142) In this case Molly is not confident about herself because she thinks people will tease her about the picture posted on Instagram with the cruel caption. All this has done to Molly is overwhelm her with new feelings and emotions making her feel sick to her stomach when she sees the girls walking down the hall towards her.
