Unit 029 CYPW 1.1 Explain the importance of multi-agency working and integrated working for children and young people?
Multi-agency working brings together professionals and specialists from different professions to provide an integrated way of working to support children, young people and their families. Multi-agency and integrated working are important as they consist of agencies that will play vital roles in ensuring that a child or young person’s needs are supported and managed in a professional manor.
Their main importance is to communicate with each other as necessary. For example if a child or young person has any disabilities or medical issues, such as allergies and dietary requirements, the school or nursery will need to be formally informed by the relevant specialist. Services will work together to ensure that the correct documents and referrals are transferred when needed to promote a child’s development and life skills. Multi-agency working allows the child or young person to reach their full potential either in their learning or development. It is important that young children and their families are supported with a holistic approach which is part of the government framework. For example ECM Every Child Matters, there are five positive outcomes of the framework and these should all be met by professionals working together to provide the best. These are:
1. Be Healthy 2. Stay Safe 3. Enjoy and achieve 4. Make a positive contribution 5. Achieve economic well-being.
A very effective part of multi-agency working is inclusion. At my setting we are constantly ensuring that every child is included in all learning aspects to encourage them to reach their full potential.
