The Parthenon temple was a fine example of the Doric order. The columns surround the Cella, and the number of columns on the sides is equal to two times the number across the front, plus an additional column. Each column is alike except the corners; the spacing lessens in an aesthetic adjustment. The column swells are about seven inches, which is called entasis, it tilts upward at the top to appear upright. Stylobate is the foundation that is just right below the columns, rises toward the center so it does not appear saggy from the massive weight of the columns. The inside of the Parthenon is divided into two parts that houses the forth foot tall statue of the goddess Athena. White marble may have been used to compliment and reflect the intensity of the Athenian Sunlight. This temple signifies Classical characteristics of convention, order, balance, idealization, simplicity, grace, and restrained vitality.…

The Parthenon building in Athens was started in 447 BC and completed in 432. It represents a tangible and the visible power of the Athenian Empire. Having also the influence from the Athenian politician, Perikles. The Pantheon Building is in Rome, Italy and was constructed in 126 AD. The name Pantheon comes from the Greek language meaning ''every god''. It’s in a circular shape rather than the rectangular shape of the Parthenon Building in Athens. It is currently being used a Church dedicated to St. Mary and has been since the 7th century. For these buildings, I have found that the functionality or use of them has been quite different from each other. The Parthenon was used as both a treasury in the smaller rooms and as cult statues rooms in the larger areas.…

    * The Greek and Roman gods were a center of the lives of the noblemen, providing them with topics for conversation and reasons to donate money for the “good of Rome” in the form of temples and statues in their honor. Although it would seem that the Romans are fiercely committed to their religion, it is obvious in scenes like the dinner services at the house of Kalandion that they do this only for political gain or attention.…

The commonly accepted theory is that the Pantheon is built as an cumenical temple dedicated to all the gods, not just of Roman tradition but of all roots and cultures. This seems plausible since the Pantheon was created at a turning point in history when rites and rules drawn from a very long past were not yet abandoned, but the surge of a new and utterly different age was already being felt. Written evidence by Dio Cassius indicates that a statue of Julius Caesar, not deified for long, had been placed inside the original Pantheon. Additionally, statuary with patriotic and dynastic implications such as those of Aeneas, Romulus and Alba Longa etc. decorates the entire complex. Seen in this light, it is reasonable to assume that the Pantheon contains not only the ancient and traditional gods, but also deities of recent origin and strong connection to dynastic and political meaning. On the other hand, it is easily imaginable that it related to cosmology. It has 7 niches for altars and statues and at that time there were seven known planets. The symmetry is perfect; the rotunda itself is divided into sixteen parts – a direct connection to the sixteen equal divisions of the Etruscan sky. The circle,…

Like I have mentioned for the ark in the synagogue. The architecture and religious significance of the Dome of the Rock and its visual manifestations in works of art are the tradition of the Divine Presence. The ark is also a signification to the heaven circling the earth, it is the same interpretation in the Dome of the Rock. The Temple Mount is also known as a good example of Jewish art in Jerusalem. The roofer top is beautifully well painting and decorated in gold, it is to represent the sun and symbolic of how important God is and it is to reflect forward to people the illumination of their temple. We could understand the feeling of God, watching over us in peace in the temple. We saw it in class, that it is a place that get a lot of visitors…

It is remarkable that The Pantheon even today, nearly two thousand years after it was constructed, is as stable as when it was first built. It is almost beyond understanding that the Romans could build this structure without the benefit of modern machines or tools. Nor did the Pantheon engineers have the advantage of modern transportation methods. All the materials were floated down the Tiber and moved to the site by man and animal on carts of the period.…

The dome in the interior of the Pantheon is round, inclusive and an all-encompassing continuum. These all symbolize the idea of heaven or the dome of heaven. The circular form contains sculptures of gods and deified emperors thus giving the idea of heaven where they all reside. The reason a dome was used was to give the Romans a representation of heaven on earth. The light that falls inside the dome form the sun through the oculus manifests the movements of the heavens on earth as the earthly sphere meets the heavenly sphere.…

The Pantheon is one of the oldest Roman buildings that has been in continuous use for almost 20 centuries. It was built during a tumultuous time in Ancient Rome. The Empire was expanding rapidly and was constantly at war with its neighbors. Internally, civil war was rampant as legions of soldiers had grown more loyal to their generals than the Roman Senate in farther parts of the empire. Rulers tried different way to calm the feelings of the war-tired Romans and bring unity to the land. The Pantheon was one of these attempts.…
