Lance Armstrong

His life has lead thousands to feel the desire to progress and to achieve excellence. Everyone knows of the struggles and trials that Lance Armstrong went through to overcome cancer and to return and win the Tour De France. He has now won the Tour de France six times. He has had a remarkable comeback, and it is a remarkable story. As I learned of his trials and read about his life I was amazed at what he had to endure and at the examples that he had in his life. It was a book that I could not put down. The story inspired me to make some good decisions in my life and has helped me to motivate myself to do my best. I think he says it best when he says, it is not about the bike.

There is so much more to say about Lance other than just his leadership skills. He possesses one of the greatest qualities that a human being can have. Someone once said, "Find your best self, and become that person." Lance was able to accomplish that. When we learn to be self motivated and enjoy pushing ourselves to greater heights we have become more like our Heavenly Father. Just like all of us Lance lacks a lot to be like God, but he has learned to come closer in that aspect of his life. He always says that he looks for pain and he loves it, but I think that what it comes down to is that he loves perfection. On the bike he has learned perfection. It took a lot of work to overcome some of his weaknesses, but after he was willing to put it all on the line it became …show more content…
He took the same attitude to defeat cancer. Everyday he would say to his cancer, "I am going to kill you, you picked the wrong person to attack." This attitude was the kind of attitude he needed to survive. I don't think most of us realize how powerful that can really be. President Young said, "Tell me what you think about when you don't have to think, and I will tell you what you are." Most people have formed very poor mental habits. They make no effort to direct their thinking during the day. If our thoughts are not productive it is our responsibility to replace them with productive thoughts. Lance knew how to do that. I was amazed how time after time he was able to win mental victories, and that was what led him to success. When it was pouring rain outside and it was freezing cold he would exert himself mentally and he would overcome the adversities. The feeling of, it can't wait until tomorrow will get us a long ways in life. Thinking negatively requires no effort, but to control your thoughts and to maintain a motivated frame of mind requires an exerted effort. The most important thing that I learned from Lance and from his book is that to succeed and be the best you must learn to control your thoughts. We need to focus on setting goals and then become preoccupied with those desires. As we do this it will help us to live a more fulfilled life. In my life I try to

In the text, “Hamlet’s soliloquy”, he argues with himself debating whether or not he should be alive or to die. He sees his life as pointless and points out the negative aspects of life. For example, “The slings and arrows of outrageous fortunes—or to take arms against a sea of troubles.” In this phrase, he indicates to let everything go and leave, or to stay and fight whatever obstacles are thrown at you. In the reading, “It’s Not About The Bike: My Journey Back To Life”, Lance Armstrong tells his story about how valuable life is to him. The quote, “Good strong people get cancer, and they do all the right things to beat it, and they still die.” This is an example on how many times you have done your best, its sometimes still not enough. But we have to learn to accept the fact that things or people leave for certain reason that remains unknown. After surviving cancer, he felt that this was another chance to be someone different or someone better, the old him was gone and this was his chance to start on a second life. “I have a tough constitution, and my profession taught me how to compete against long odds and big obstacles.” Since Armstrong was a bicyclist, he was constantly facing struggles every time he gets on a bike that leads to how to deal with the cancer situation. But in order to make dreams come into reality, it takes an awful lot of detrimination, dedication, self-discipline, and effort (Jesse Owens, Olympic Trackstar),” I do not fear the unknown; I fear the day I stop trying to be the best. I cannot change that currently, people are faster than me, but that shouldn’t stop me from taking lead and becoming the best. Sports are very competitive by nature so many athletes choose to use whatever means necessary to be better than the next guy. What I did like about what Randy Pausch stated was that when he started to state the life advices he explained what we should do. Planning is always good, it’s good to always plan each day, each week, and each semester. To do list is as well good to do; Randy explained that breaking things down into small steps helps a lot. As well do the ugliest things first. The hard management time is what we mostly need. We need our creative time, we need to find our lonely time where we can just relax and do something we like. What I mostly liked about what Randy Pausch said was when he stated Alf Weaver, it was what Alf tought him, “Specific thing to do, Specific date/time, and Specific penalty or reward for them.” It’s the most easiest way to manage time for others.…
