Landlady Alternate Ending
Landlady extended ending
“I’m getting tired.” said Billy after he finished the last sip of tea. “I think I’m going to hit the hay and call it a night.” The old lady asked him if anything felt strange about him, before he went to bed. “No I feel fine.” said Billy in a curious voice. “I’ve been waiting for you!” screamed the Landlady. At that moment Billy took off down the hall for the door. The landlady sprinted off after him. Billy tripped over his untied shoelace and fell straight to the ground. The landlady was hovering over him, looking him right in the eye. Billy had to think of something quick or else he would be dead meat. Billy jumped up and sprinted off, and she was right behind him. To Billy it seemed like an eternity since he called the police. Billy scurried out the door and into the street. The landlady was not far behind him. “For an older lady she’s pretty fast.” Billy whispered to himself. Out of the slightest view of his eye he saw the old lady trip and fall to the ground. As she stood up, a car hit her. The driver responsible for the car was Mr. Mulholland. Billy then looked at Mr. Mulholland and he suddenly disappeared. The police showed up an hour later to the bed and breakfast. The police looked all over the bed and breakfast for Billy, but never found him. They left after 30 minutes of looking. They didn’t realize that Billy left Bath, London an hour

After reading the landlady, I found two thing that may have prevented Billy from seeing the real landlady. One is that, she kept changing the subject with tea. In the text it states, “‘Now wait a minute,” he said. “Wait just a minute. Mulholland ... Christopher Mulholland ... wasn’t that the name of the Eton schoolboy who was on a walking-tour through the West Country, and then all of a sudden ...” “Milk?” she said. “And sugar?”’. This shows us that she change the subject with the word “milk” as asking him if he wanted milk with his tea. This show that she was trying to get him off track about thinking about Christopher Mulholland . She might not want him to think about Christopher Mulholland, because he may realize what happened to Christopher, and that it can happen to him.…
