Bess's Monologue
On a full moon winter night, a highwayman named James came riding, up to the old inn door. He was wearing a black french cocked hat and a bunch of lace at his chin. He was wearing a velvet coat, with a white shirt underneath. He had breeches of brown doe-skin, and black boots that went up to his thigh.. In his belt he had a rapier, a pistol, and a pouch of gold, but covered by the pistol was a bright red rose. When he got to the inn, whistled a tune at the window. There he waited, for his love, Bess the landlord’s daughter. She was wearing a dark green dress with a red hat on her head. In her long black hair she was weaving a dark red ribbon that sparkled in the moonlight. Her red lips made a smile on her face when she saw him. Bess …show more content…
She was in her room reading a book about love. She had read it many times and already knew how it ended, but she liked it anyway. Sitting on her brown, narrow bed with a lit candle on the table next to her. The candles smell of flowers filled the room making her breath in deeply with her nose every couple of seconds. In front of her was a wooden closet filled with all of her clothes. Most of them were dresses, but at the bottom of the closet were some shoes. We both met our loved ones at night. Me and her both were riding in a carriage and it was a dark night. I wonder if our relationship will work out or not. Charles and James both stole, but Charles stopped and went to the authorities and admitted what he did. No, James would never do that. He donates the money and loot he steals to the poor. Ya, this will work out good. Bess laid on her bed for a bit and then started to read, but she got interrupted by her thoughts. Wow, It’s getting …show more content…
She looked up and remembered that James was coming back at night. Then she saw it wasn’t him. It was the red coats. She thought they might just be passing by and stayed in her room and continued to read. Then the redcoats came inside and drake all of The landlord’s ale. They tied Bess up and put a musket on her. Then she twisted and turned, stumbled and fell, cut her fingers so that blood was pouring out of the side of the fingers, all so she could get one finger on the trigger. Please don’t come thought Bess. She was going to pull the trigger to warn James if he came to turn around. Then she saw in the moonlight a man riding on a horse. Without thinking, she closed her eyes, held her breath, and pulled the trigger. James herd the gun, but did not know that Bess shot herself. The highwayman thought the redcoats had saw him and rode away. The redcoats looked to see what had happened and saw she had pulled the trigger. The captain saw that she had been looking out of the window and thought about it a
