Putney Mountain: A Narrative Fiction
After the fourth ring, “Mayor Jim, what can I do for you?” “Honey it’s me, someone took my gas while we were shopping and I’m over near the base of Putney Mountain. Please, bring some gas,” she screamed.
“What’re you doing over there? I’ll send someone right over.” And the phone went dead. When Betty no longer could contain herself, she sobbed. After a few minutes, she stopped and locked the doors. She would be okay, even though, it frightened her, she was okay. Knowing her husband would send a man out with gas.

She couldn’t stay out there alone and would need to start thinking of a way to get some help. Noticing another car coming up the road, she waited to be sure it was from the highway department before getting out of the car. Anger swept over her when they didn’t stop.
Placing her arms on the steering wheel and her head on her arms, Betty sobbed, and fell asleep.

Rolling down her window, “I’m so glad you’re here,” she said.
“Okay, let’s put this in the car and get you out of this area. Why are you out here?” The driver asked.
After explaining she went shopping at the CMC Department Store with her friend, when she returned her gas tank was empty.
As soon as he put the gas in the car, he told her where she could find a gas station. Thanking him for his help, she drove up the street looking for the gas station. Spotting it on the opposite corner, she pulled into the first pump and noticed several people standing around, pointing toward the

Oh heavens almighty, God, for your luminous power and the sacred land below us, let my cousin Betty awaken from this troubled sleep. It’s been long since I have been able to enjoy her presence, and Mercy has even begun to suggest I beat her. Everything has taken a turn for the worse, and I’m trying to understand it all. When we girls went deep into the forest, we did so out of a joyous mood, our limbs solely wanting to be free from the confined rules. There was nothing troublesome there.…

"Taking a break from studying around midnight, Sarah decided to drive to get coffee in her brand new convertible Mercedes. On her way to the coffee shop, while looking down to read an incoming text, she ran a stop sign on a neighborhood street and was pulled over by the police. In a thick Southern accent, the officer asked her for her driver's license and insurance verification. As she was handing both to the officer, she realized she was wearing her spring break t-shirt with the words, "I Survived Spring Break 2012." Nervously, she blurted out, "Officer, I am a college student, and I have been studying, and I have not been drinking, and I am just going to get coffee." After receiving a ticket from the police officer she noticed her badge, which stated, "Protect and Serve." Her frustration quickly dissipated as she realized that the police officer was carrying out her duty to maintain public safety and her actions could have caused a serious accident. Contemplating the night's event, she drove 10 miles under the speed limit the rest of the way to the coffee shop."…

“I pulled up under a carport and I guess I forgot to put it in park. When I got out, I realized that the car was still moving and Holly and her friend were still inside, in the back seat. I jumped back in and tried to put my foot on the brake, but it must have been the accelerator because the car just kept going forward. It was so quick! I went over the little concrete block at the end of the parking space, right through a fence, across a small patio, through a sliding glass door and into a lady’s kitchen.” “Thank God, that lady and her son were out taking a…
