It is strange to me to think of learning as having different styles. In this essay, something that will be discussed is the different types of learning styles and how they apply to me or anyone else for that matter. Learning as we grow seems so fundamental and that there is not much to it. We learn as we go and as we grow. In our learning process, we do not take too much into account that we are developing a style of learning. Some of us had the privilege of having our parents guide us through our learning process and help develop our style, while others developed it on our own. Either way, our style is our own.
I am currently pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Cyber Security. I have been in the Army for over 17 years now and have an extensive background in logistics. While it would be easy for me to pursue a degree in logistics, I felt it was time for a change. In this age of the World Wide Web and cyber crime, I figured I’d give it a shot. I have a pretty good knowledge base on computers and the internet, so I thought it would be a rewarding challenge to try and pursue something new. I might even wind up working for a logistics company, monitoring their internet …show more content…

My learning style is 55% Auditory, 27% Kinesthetic, and 18% Visual.
This is according to a learning style quiz I took (The Center for New Discoveries in Learning (2012). Learning styles inventory. Retrieved from http://www.howtolearn.com/learning-styles-quiz). The quiz was basically made up of a series of questions that asked how you like to do certain things. Much to my surprise, the quiz has me down as 55% Auditory learner. I akways thought of myself as more of a kinesthetic and visual learner. In spite of the quiz I took, I still think I am. Maybe I’ll retake that quiz, over and over, until I get the desired results. Then again, I don’t think I have time for all that, and I’ll just stick with the results of the
quiz.
The biggest reason I disagree with the results given to me by the quiz I took is that I have been learning on and on for quite some time now. I’m sure that I have a pretty good idea on what technique or style it takes for me to learn certain materials better. I don’t think that a quiz with prdetermined answers, and answers that can only be selected as one and not both, is accurate enough to determine one’s learning style. I believe that each individual person is capable of determining their own learning style or combinantion of learning styles by doing a little reasearch, and recognizing different leartning styles.
In concusion, I think that even though there are different types of learning styles, one can only determine their own by doing research and finding out which applies to them specifically. I learned a great deal about learning styles, and can definitely use it to my advantage. Although I still believe I’m more of a Kenesthetic style of learning, as opposed to an Auditory style, I can use this knowledge most when I teach. Recognizing how students learn and which is their style will, without a doubt make me a better instructor/teacher in the future.
