Learning Team Reflection -Week 4

Our learning group has been overall successful in conducting productive meetings and completing tasks in a timely manner and at the desired quality level. However, there are aspects that can be improved in order to make meetings run more smoothly.

The success can be attributed to several factors. One of the most important factors leading to successful meetings is setting clear goals and an agenda before the actual meeting. Being that all group members have demanding jobs and families to attend to, we have been able to avoid wasting time meeting for things that can be done via email or over the group discussion forum. Instead, we have identified the tasks that require of all the team members’ presence and set up face-to-face meetings to discuss only those things. Moreover, the group has created an atmosphere of trust in which all members feel comfortable expressing their ideas freely. Group discussion, active listening and constructive criticism are encouraged. Finally, we have been able to compromise and make group decisions that leave everyone satisfied.

The learning group could improve success in conducting meetings and performing group tasks/projects by focusing on staying on topic. Instead of socializing during the meeting, team members could be rewarded with socialization time once the team goals have been met. At the same time, team members could contribute to time management by adequately preparing and gathering all materials needed prior to the meeting.

In health care settings, effective meetings may be the first step in achieving other goals such as high quality care for patients, therefore it is most important that strategies, like the ones described above, are applied.

Through this group assignment, I really learned much. First, I realize that I should learn more about finance and accounting .when talking about the last part in presentation during discussion, I cannot participate in the debate, and even do not know what they said when comes some proper nouns. Although my major is logistics, it is good for me to learn more about other subject knowledge such as finance and management. Second is although we had discussion many times, we were inefficient and wasted much time. We supposed to have a target or task for each discussion, and leader need to coordinate the meeting. In addition, democracy does not work every time in small group, everyone has a different idea and wants to persuade others, which is the reason that a good leader is very important for a team, so that I should start to train leadership skills. Third is that unity and cooperation are essential to a good team. Team members need to work for…

In the video, Corporate Finance Video: Stable Money Makers, Peggy Parks has taken a chance on raising and breeding alpacas. She chooses to do this instead of watching her 401K slowly disappear and have nothing for her senior years. Ms. Parks initially invested $56,000 to buy seven animals to start up the alpaca farm. Her investment is starting to pay off because the original seven have already produced two babies, which will add about $15,000 to the value of her business in the first year. One capital improvement that Ms. Parks should make to her business is to sell the alpaca coat. According to Sugarloaf Alpaca Company, “The fiber they produce has unique qualities and is used by…

Companies today should mirror their compensation and benefit programs with their long- term business strategy and organizational culture. According to Casio (2010), “Pay systems are designed to attract, retain, and motivate employees” (p.421). The most important objective is fairness or to achieve internal, external, and individual equity; and maintain a balance in relationships between direct and indirect forms of compensation, and between the pay rates of supervisory and nonsupervisory employees. Depending on the purpose of the group and time span of the group, this stage will vary. Some groups form for the purpose of completing short-term tasks, while others carry out long-term initiatives. Regardless of the time frame, groups should be commended on their areas of success and constructively identify areas that need improvement. It is our experience that different individuals can be grouped together on several different tasks. If the adjourning stage is handled properly, these individuals will carry a good attitude and level of camaraderie into their next group…
