No, I don't think the leaving certificate prepares you for life. In my opinion the leaving certificate leads to stress on students because they are told that there future depends on it. When you are told your future depends on a few exams you start to worry and panic and eventually become stressed and can make yourself ill. In my opinion I think the leaving certificate causes more problems every year.
I just don't understand how a few exams can determine how your life will turn out. I don't understand how getting an A on exam will make you have a better future, ok, so you can memorize things, so you spent the last 2 years studying and studying until your eyes and brain hurt. Just because you can memorize things does not mean you are skillful. I could go into a woodwork class now study all the information about the tools and the wood and the instructions on how to build something, that doesn't mean that when I go to make something I’ll be amazing at it, it just means that I’ll be more knowledgeable about my bearings. I think that if you’re good at something your good at something and there should be more practical exams instead of written exams, because at the end of the day you could study until your eyes burn but you might be shockingly bad at practical work.
Sixth year students know how important the leaving certificate is but it doesn’t help us for life after school. We are shown how to study, and write and read and learn etc. but we are not shown how to present yourself while applying for a job, how to talk to others example customers. In my opinion the leaving certificate helps us towards getting into the college we want and getting the course we want but honestly after college the leaving certificate will be a waste of my time because it’s not going to help for the path that lies ahead. It’s not going to help me get the job I want it will help a little bit but my degree will help more. It’s not
