Lesson Pacing Lesson pacing is the pace at which individual lessons are taught. Pacing is an important part of teaching. If a subject is taught too slow, the students will become bored and complacent. If a subject is taught too fast, the students will not absorb all the information. A rapid pace is desirable for typical lessons that are similar with the set classroom learning dynamic. It is also useful for lessons that build on previously learned subject. A slow place is more favorable for new information. It gives students an opportunity to ask questions and the teacher a chance to check for understanding. Lesson pacing starts when a teacher starts writing a lesson plan. The teacher needs to take into account the information being taught, what it builds upon, and students’ abilities when deciding the pace for the lesson. In a diverse classroom with English Language Learner (ELL) students the pace has to vary from a classroom without. When planning a lesson for ELL students, teachers have to think about the information as well as English mastery.
