Mr. John Smith
Hotel Manager
Springhill suites
300 Hotel Dr
Myrtle beach, Sc 29578

Dear Mr. Smith,

I am writing to you about an error in the bill I paid for my 2 night stay at your Springhill suites in Myrtle beach on the dates of July 29 an July 30.

I was overcharged because the amount I was billed is different from the media advertisement: I made the reservation for this room by phone, I specifically asked the Reservations clerk whether the special rate I had seen advertised in the media would apply on the dates of my stay. After putting me on hold, she was gone for a few minutes, presumably checking with her supervisior. When she returned she told me that the reduced rate would indeed apply, and gave me a confirmation number, which was 21221829.

However, on the morning of my departure as I was checking out, I noticed that my bill for the 2 nights had been calculated at the regular room rate. When I mentioned to the desk staff person that I was supposed to get the special, he said that my reservation had been made by phone- that I had called the 800 number and had actually been talking to your central reservation office at your headquarters in New York. He also told me there was no local staff on duty at the moment who could deal with correcting any error, and since I had a flight to catch, I paid the amount billed.

I enclose a copy of my receipt and a copy of the advertisement showing the special rate, and request you send a check for the amount I was overcharged to the address on this letterhead.

Cordially,

Phileashia Yellock

Charlie Jones, a fireman for Boulder County, Colorado, saw an ad for the vacation of his dreams in the local, “Boulder County Gazette.” The ad read, “Seven days at the wonderful luxury Windell resort, ‘Cabo Mar,’ $1200 per person, all inclusive.” The ad featured a picture of the front of the hotel with a person receiving a massage by the pool superimposed over the hotel façade. The ad went on to say how the hotel was located on the beach at Cabo San Lucas, Mexico and in a wonderful tropical setting. The ad also listed the name of a local travel agency, Jennifer’s Tours, for booking purposes. In miniscule print at the bottom of the ad, blending with the pattern of the iron railing, the ad went on to make a short disclaimer to the effect that the amenities featured were not necessarily those provided. Jones knew Jennifer Hooley, the owner of the agency. Anxious for some time off in a warm climate, Jones decided to Google the hotel name to verify that it was indeed a Windell hotel as he knew Windell to be a reputable company. From Google, Jones was able to confirm that the, ‘Cabo Mar,’ was owned by Windell; he also noticed that the same picture appeared on this website as he had first seen in the newspaper. The site also showed pictures of what seemed to be spacious, well-appointed rooms with queen sized beds. Excited by what he saw, Jones called Jennifer’s Tours and booked the special he saw in the newspaper ad.…

Room 208- Golub: Originally checked into room 309 but shortly after came back to the desk complaining that it was not the same room as last year, which was (324). We did not have an alternative options because the only available room with a view was pre-assign to another guest. Due to their reaction I was forced to unassigned the previous guest and give them room 208. I called the room to check and see how they were doing, and Mrs. Golub still didn't sound too happy. Additionally, before moving them I offered to adjust $50 off their room rate, which they were not satisfied with. I got them into a better room so the $50 was not adjusted off.…

If I overheard the person in front of you in line getting a better room rate at a Hilton Hotel, I probably will comfort myself her/his room is not as good as mine. But I would not do that, it’s time consuming and it is usually for people not follow the schedule.…
