Pocahontas, a well known figure in history, was the main topic of John Smith’s letter to Queen Anne of Great Britain in 1616. John Smith was incredibly fond of her and believed that she should be welcomed and respected in England. John Smith speaks highly of Pocahontas, as well as Queen Anne in this letter. John has had many encounters (both good and bad) with Pocahontas, and he mentions these instances in a positive and respectful way. John Smith creates emphasis and uses different techniques to convey his message to Queen Anne. He uses hyperboles as well as personification to enhance his main idea. While this letter is meant to be about Pocahontas, he also speaks about Queen Anne herself in order to help persuade her.…

This is letter was written on the 11th of August, in 1863 in helena arkansas by a soldier. The man who wrote this letter was Scott Newman a soldier who was currently in helena arkansas on his way to Little rock. Newman was a private in company A of the 36th infantry, and had a high amount of collected letters documented over his three year period of serving from 1862-1865. These letters not only go deep into what life was like as a Iowa soldier but also life in the union camps. Newman mentions the “boys of monroe county”. A letter was written by a man named Medgar Evans. He was an African American man from Mississippi who entered the WW2 at age 19. Medgar was completely out of his comfort zone when he entered the army especially since his whole patrol unit was led by a white lieutenant. The lieutenant favored Medgar and became a mentor teaching him that intelligence would take him far in life and to always strive for something better. Joining the army opened a whole new world for Medgar who had never stepped foot outside of Mississippi. After living in place where racial discrimination was a part of Evans was surprised that some places racism didn’t even exist. When they landed in France a white family opened there home to Medgar where he even had a…
Cornell W. Clayton argues that rather than addressing incivility, Americans should focus on the “substantive sources of political conflict”. This would change the entire tone of the conversation because there would be no incivility mentioned in his essay. Most of his essay is showing the reader about the incivilities that had happened in the past. Clayton informs the reader that incivility can be ended, and Americans should focus on causes of division today because it will effect the future. The tone of the conversation would be very different. It would be more positive than negative because there will be solutions for causes of divisions. He writes, “I dislike uncivil behavior, and I believe it says more about the louts who engage in it than…

Veterans are those who have serve in order to honor and protect their country. As these individuals boldly practice their beliefs in freedom, they rewrite history, and we as American honor these patriots who were willing to give the ultimate sacrifice.…
While Toni Morrison was growing up she has also experienced prejudices similar to Twyla. Toni Morrison’s family moved to Ohio to get away from the dangers and economic struggles of the south (Kubitschek 5). As Toni Morrison grew up, she wondered what it meant to be black. She has said that when someone was born black they had to “decide to be black” (3). What Morrison said goes beyond skin color and refers to what the world views (3). This gives insight on why Morrison decided to write this short story. Both women Twyla and Roberta have preconceived views of each other based on world views. Once they build an emotional relationship with each other, they forget what the world has always told them about each other.…

There are many reasons to acknowledge America’s veterans. No matter a person’s personal opinion on wars, past or present, veteran’s military work should still be acknowledged. Veterans should be acknowledged because nothing in your life can compare to the time they have spent giving us freedom. Most have spent many years of their lives over seas protecting the United States of America. If a person was born in America, they have lived in a free country ever since, and it will stay that way thanks to the military and its veterans.…

In America, freedom is the gift to my generation. Speak freely, vote, or purchase whatever you want. It’s a responsibility such as driving safely, keeping a job, and serving in a jury with other citizens. Freedom is a choice of who you want to be, where you want to work hand, and how you will act in this world is it true that this world is it true that this precious gift, this box loaded with golden treasure, has been paid for by the sacrifice of others.…
We have the right to be police officers, part of the military, we can be a president, women can do anything a man is capable of. We have the right to do what we want, work where we want, and we don’t need permission from anyone. Our freedom in the United States is far from what young girls, teenagers, and grown women in many different countries are used to. They have to be submissive to men, and they are used to pampering their husbands, where some women in the U.S. are generally treated that way by our husbands, or men in…
President Lincoln affirmed the government’s obligation to care for those injured during the war and to provide for the families of those who died on the battlefield. Lincoln’s immortal words became the Veterans Affairs motto in 1959. In this essay I will talk about how our country has continuously supported our veterans by giving them the opportunity to get the education they want, and also by giving them a chance at a job so they can continue their lives once they’re back. Lastly, I would like to talk about the health care benefits that our veterans so rightly deserve.…
