Lifeguard

Something I always wanted to be when I grow up is a lifeguard. I want to do this because I like the beach and pool. Also, I love to help people who are in need. Last summer I actually saved my little cousin’s life. We were at the pool and he just learned to walk, he started to walk to the deep end of the pool and fell in. I right away jumped in and save his life. That's when I knew I wanted to be a lifeguard.
Now lifeguards have so many responsibilities. Some of them could be to maintain the safety in and around the beach or pool. Another one is to participate and help with staff training. Lifeguards also got to attend all staff meetings. Remember to remain alert while guarding. Also lifeguards must work as a team with other lifeguards during special events. That is just some of the responsibilities of being a lifeguard.

I started my research by learning about the History of the Coast Guard. The official date that the Coast Guard started was August 4, 1790. The creator of our nation’s Coast guard is Alexander Hamilton. The First Congress of the United States established the Coast Guard. “This newly formed maritime force did not have an official name. At first, it was referred to as “the cutters” or “the system of cutters”. “The first congress authorized the construction of ten vessels to enforce federal tariff and trade laws to prevent smuggling”. It is one of the oldest lifesaving services in the world. “The Coast Guard was the United States’ only armed force they had until the navy was made about 8 years later from the creation of the Coast Guard In 1876,…

There are many purposes of a lifeguard’s job. The main job is to make sure all swimmers are safe in the water and if a situation does happened a lifeguard can save the person. By preventing drowning’s in the water, lifeguards must make sure that everyone in the pool knows how to swim a full lap without struggling. To make sure everyone stays safe lifeguards have to remember to make sure to enforce all the rules around the pool deck. For example, some rules they use quite often are, no running because if a kid slips on the cement they might scratch up their knee. Another example of a rule is, no holding breath games underwater because if one person really wants to win they will hold their breath for a really long time and might pass out. Finally no horse play on the deck or in the water, lifeguards don’t want people messing around…

Yes, i think boaters should be required to wear a PFD when on a moving vessel. Someone could easily get hurt if not. You could drown in the wake or even get ran over because other boats my not see you. Falling overboard could cause shock and then a person will not be able to swim properly. Not wearing a lifeguard is very dangerous and 37% of fatal accidents are because of falls overboard. Most of these could probably be prevented by the use of a PFD.…
