Four major themes that are developed in the letter are phroneo, which means to think or have a particular attitude or disposition. Harpagmos which means to be grasped, exploited or desired for one’s own advantage. He also talked about surface structure which is playing off of false conception of who God is. And deep structure which reveals the character of God.…

Antonio’s wife and son, Elena and Carlos, are killed by Longoria. In the chapter, Fire Escape”, on page 183, it states “I did not bury my wife and child, but I can stand and seek vengeance, for them and for the many, for the anonymous dead”. “Now Antonio knew how Elena must have felt when she marched in the demonstrations. Now he could see why she was a revolutionary, he could understand what had been a mystery before”. “This is how Elena felt, tall and strong. This is what she was trying to tell me, but I wouldn’t listen. Elena knew that to march with the many was to stand tall. Elena loved me because she knew I could be a brave fighter” (Tobar 183). This shows that Antonio is upset because his wife Elena and his son Carlitos are killed. Elena had written a complaint letter to the government because people were dying due to the filthy water caused by the garbage that people dumped onto it. She requested that the changes should be made in a nearby city. She was also famous for making her points clear. The Guatemalan government sent a soldier named Longoria to kill Antonio and Elena for complaining to the fascist government and they found it to be a threat. Their family have been suspected of being informer immigrants and are being hunted down. Antonio escaped death by being at work when his family was killed. After the death of his wife, Antonio had no choice but to escape from there if he wanted to live. He ran away to Los Angeles, hoping for a…

He didn’t believe in gods work. Florence felt as though God made him suffer and put him on earth only to suffer and not enjoy life. Antonio did everything in his nature to help Florence believe but it was no use because during confession Antonio saw that Florence thought he hadn’t committed any sins.…
Narciso and Gabriel’s failed attempt to save Lupito, as well as the triumph of Chavez’s and the others’ blind anger and fear, forces Antonio to confront the fact that good intentions and good actions do not always achieve their desired results. As Antonio’s mentor, Ultima does not tell him what to think; rather, she tells him how people like his father and Narciso make moral decisions. Her approach gives Antonio the freedom to apply his understanding to his own decisions. Ultima’s style of teaching implies that she is more interested in helping Antonio develop into an independent person than in teaching him any particular moral outlook on…
(Q) While Antonio’s father expects him to become a man of the llano and to be a man of the land and Antonio’s mother expects him to become a scholarly priest, which of these dreams, if either, will become reality, and will this result reflect either matriarchy or patriarchy?…
In the first dream, the woman, who turns out to be Ultima, buried Antonio’s afterlife. This foreshadows Antonio’s true identity being revealed by Ultima right before her death, as she asks Antonio to follow in her footsteps. In another dream Antonio hears his brothers in the woods saying, “ Oh our sweet baby, we are coming home to you. We who had been beyond the land of our father’s dream; we who have traveled west until we were in the east, we are coming home to you” (61). This foreshadows the return of his three older brothers from the war. But yet in another dream of Antonio’s, when the three older brothers cannot cross the river, it foreshadows that once they return from the war they will leave…
he had the belief that Santa Claus is real. When someone has believed something for a long time, it is hard for them to accept the truth, so they are usually trapped between an enchanting belief and reality. As a child grows up, he or she starts to know about the harsh, intolerable conditions of life. What was a pleasant, calm world would not be as calm and pleasant. During this time, life can be very difficult, irritating, pressuring and bewildering. In Bless Me Ultima,Antonio undertakes a rough adventure to seek his true faith and his beliefs. Antonio must transform from an innocent six year old to a fully grown, brawny man. He faces many experiences which always makes him doubt his beliefs, and his innocence slowly fades away as he experiences each incident. For example, when he experiences Lupito’s savage death, he has many questions about good and evil, punishment, sin, and his destiny. He starts to view the world as vicious and merciless, not the genial, affectionate world he had seen before. Antonio even starts to worry about his own father’s lifeline, since he was involved in the death of Lupito. He is tormented by more deaths, when Narciso, a virtuous man, is murdered while trying protect Ultima, whereas Tenorio, a seemingly wicked man, is forgiven. He believes that these results…
He then has a vision of Tenorio, a drunk saloon and barber, killing Ultima by murdering her “night-spirit.” These dreams truly start to affect Antonio and Ultima suggests he go to work with his uncles in El Puerto because they can teach him about growing life and also appreciating it. On his way there, Antonio asks his father, “can a new religion be made.(Anaya, 460)” When asking this, it signifies he is trying to break free of all the opposing forces around him, and grow as a…
By showing the struggles of Antonio’s day to day life Anaya gave the readers the experience of battling between the dreams of the adults and the children. This was mostly illustrated in the tussle that Antonio faced because of the pre-made future plans of his parents. His mother dreamed of him being a priest or a farmer like the Lunas, while his father dreamed of a life on the road with his kids. Parents tend to do this, conversely causing a battle in the head of their child; sometimes children must choose their own path.…
In chapter veintidos when Ultima is dying she says, "'Love life, and if despair enters your heart, look for me in the evenings when the wind is gentle and the owls sing in the hills. I shall be with you--"(Anaya 260). When a mentor leaves their student it is because they believe they have been taught as much as could be. Ultima died when Antonio had witnessed several deaths and had learned lessons about helping others, not interfering with man's fate, and to do good not evil. Also in chapter Veintidos Ultima says, "--I accept my death because I accepted to work for life--" (Anaya 260). This is one of Ultima's last teachings and these are the words which she leaves with Antonio to ponder on for the rest of his life. Her teaching is done as she sees he will be able to go on without…

La Traviata, which translates to “the stranded woman”, is an opera that serves as an optimal example of a musical style in which form follows function. La Traviata follows the main character, Violetta Valéry, in her journey to battle the disease that is slowly but surely consuming her, as well as the cruel fate of her short time with the love of her life. This opera can be simply broken down by plot in relation to character development in relation to musical choice by the composers which follows the mood of the characters highlighted during the opera, thus the form (of the music) following function (plotline and character growth, or, in Violetta’s case, physical degradation).…
