Marisol Character Analysis
On April 8th, 2016, I observed a production that first premiered in 1992 about a Puerto Rican woman named Marisol, who went through the emotional heartbreak of her angel leaving to fight against God and trying to endure in an apocalyptic world. This magnificent, humorous and passionate drama is simply named Marisol. I walked down the polished floor of the Don Taft University Center of Nova Southeastern University towards the Black Box Theatre. I tendered my ticket for Marisol to a beaming and courteous attendant that was dressed in a sophisticated black outfit that consisted of black slacks paired with a black shirt. The man across from this cheery assistant was another attendant wearing a similar outfit that handed me a program with a stunning …show more content…
Some characters were homeless people that had soiled, ragged and torn up clothes, almost as if they went through hell and then back again. Marisol’s outfit was ordinary, nothing truly special, but that is her character. Marisol is a Puerto Rican woman that works in an office, thus, normal clothing is appropriate. Lenny’s outfit was great because it fits his personality perfectly. In my point of view Lenny (played by Michael Friedman) is childish and immature, hence, for him to show up in a baby blue robe with normal clothing underneath was faultless. I especially loved the outfit that was designed for the woman with fur (played by Alexandra Zadak), the costume designer Amanda Holtzman, did an exceptionally outstanding job with that character’s outfit. When the woman appeared on stage, she was glamorous. She wore pointed-toe heels, a silky log sleeve top that was paired with some silky bottoms that gleamed in the light, and she has this humongous fur coat that covered most of her outfits. This woman walked with class and superiority. Her costume gave her this extra aristocratic vibe that made my eyes bulge out of their sockets. Not only was the woman with furs costume remarkable, but the angel’s regalia was incredible as well. First, she appeared with her beautiful white wings and had actual feathers on her back and she wore a white shirt and …show more content…
The character's placement throughout the performance was perfect. For instance, when Marisol appeared back on stage there were homeless people evenly spread out. Due to the specific settlement of the homeless, Marisol had nowhere to run; everywhere she turned there was an aggressive person near her. That was actually a bit scary because it triggered this sense of being trapped within me, which is not a nice feeling. Also, the exits and entrances of characters were smooth and connected. The props were placed in the appropriate spots and none of the items appeared as if it didn't have a function in the play. Margaret did an outstanding job in directing how the characters were placed; the placement of each person elicited some type of response. For instance, there was a part where an angel was perched on top of a wall which gave me chills and a smile formed on my face. The angel was positioned in a spot where she was surrounded by a majestic and powerful aura; it truly enhanced the overall

The piece was extremely clever how they only used four actors during the entire show. This brings me onto costumes. The costumes in this production were very bare and essential for quick changes while on stage, and this gave the play a comic feel because they changed on the stage in front of the audience. Many times the costume was a plain suit and the actors played different characters by simplistically putting so a hat, coat or a prop. I enjoyed this because it helped me associate different characters with the little bit of costume they had.…

    Avenue Q Play Analysis

I like the set design of the play it looks realistic it seems like you are living in moment. For example, the wall was made of wood but the color contrast gave a realist impression. Also, the set design is important because it gives idea to audience where the setting of the play is located. Although the building in this play were relatively new, the original Broadway play set design was very worn out. In my opinion, if the play was old then the set design should look like the original Broadway play because on Avenue Q middle and lower class family leave. The apartment look like they leave on Avenue A. In additional, the costume is also important so the audience can figure out who they are. I think costume also show the personality of a character like upper, middle, and lower class and the costume designer of this play did great work. Especially, when two or three character wearing black cloths and the puppets were in red, blue, and green this shows the color…

The costumes of the show were amazing. They made each person look like their actual character. My favorite costume of the show was my costume as the Lion. What really impressed me about my costume choice was the fur jacket I had over my Lion suit. I also loved how each of the main characters’ costumes were unique in its own way. My second favorite costume of the show had to have been The Wiz himself. Dontae’s costume was very unique as well. Since The Wiz himself was very grand, he had…

The set was well made and fit the time period quite nicely, but I could not help but feel it could have used a few more props to give the audience a better sense of immersion. It was often hard to tell where the scene was, or if the characters had changed scenes or not. Using more props would also give more distinction between events and places, making the overall scenes more memorable. One of the strongest points in the play was the costumes. They all were extraordinarily well made, and looked authentic. Some of the notable mentions are Prince Pedro’s uniform, the watchmen’s uniforms, and all the costumes in the ball scene. The costumes helped the audience remember which characters are which, and make the play more memorable.…

The clothing worn by Jack Nicholson and Faye Dunaway did not let us down. In classic noir films, the detective predominately sported a trench coat or suit and a hat. Gittes is always draped in the finest fabrics throughout the film. From Gittes silk suits to his silk pajamas; the private investigator is always looking dapper. Faye Dunaway is also known for her style in the film. From Evelyn’s over-the-top fur and hat complete with feathers to her silk robe pajamas; the femme fatale imprinted fashion trends across the…

The clothing in the movie is effectively used to communicate Christina’s personality. Her high stiff and angular collar makes her look uptight. And her long fur coat shows her status. Despite her strong makeup, the dark eyeliner and red lips that accentuate her feminine features, she wears masculine clothing such as big leather boots and baggy pants. She has expressive hand gestures and a confident laugh much like a man’s.…

Visually the production was very clever, humorous, and artistic. The lighting was clever and appropriate for each scene. The costumes through-out the entire show were incredibly striking and suited each character and scene perfectly! In particular, Mrs Lovett’s costume and hair were brilliant and really brought the vibrancy of her character out visually. The set was very cleverly made, with the two levels of Mrs Lovett’s pie shop with the trap door at the top where the victims fall down. It was painted very effectively and looked quite realistic, yet humorous. The stairs used to get to the top level are the same stairs that were used in almost every scene, but not only as a simple staircase as they created the opportunity for the audience to imagine them as something else. For example, when Johanna was singing from her bedroom she was standing on the staircase, yet it was obvious to the audience that she wasn’t actually on a staircase in the story. This imaginative theme continued through-out the production in with many of the props being over exaggerated in a funny way. The limbs were clearly made of foam, yet it suited in with the whole atmosphere of the show. It was made even funnier with Mrs Lovett just carelessly chucking them into the oven. The oven was another stand-out piece of set. It looked incredibly effective with the coloured lights and the smoke coming from it. Effects such as that really helped the whole show step-up another level. The only effect that was not quite fitting was a loud…

In fact, I wanted every single pair of Ruth’s shoes. I especially loved her gray cutout heels that she wore with her ghost costume. All of the outfits fit very well into the time period and all were very classy looking which definitely gave the impression of them all being wealthy. However, Madame Arcati did not fit in with all the other styles, but right when I saw her, I knew she was going to have some quirks to her because of the way that she was dressed. The costumes all conveyed as well that this took place in the summer because they were all very lively colors and breathable clothing. Each costume portrayed each character’s personality very well by matching their personality, whether they were quirky or very wise and professional. The ghosts were also conveyed very well because they looked like actual spirits and were wearing more flowing clothing to portray that they were just a fog floating…

The costumes’ role is even of a greater importance as it is a tool of contrasting the characters. Contrast is very significant in the scene, especially when it is taken into account that most characters are historical. Furthermore, some of them are actually fictional characters and the ones who actually existed come from various, distant periods in the history and completely different places in the world. This can be perceived by the viewer from the very beginning and does not give the possibility to even temporary accept the events or characters, who are often long dead or never lived, as believable. Therefore, from the opening scene the author or reader is invited to view the play…
