Standards Addressed:
K.CC.A.1- Count to 100 by ones and by tens.
1.NBT.A.1 -Count to 120, starting at any number less than 120. In this range, read and write numerals and represent a number of objects with a written numeral.
2.OA.C.3- Determine whether a group of objects (up to 20) has an odd or even number of members, e.g., by pairing objects or counting them by 2s; write an equation to express an even number as a sum of two equal addends.
Materials: Manipulatives from the unique curriculum, and differentiated worksheets.
Objective: Students will learn number concepts through counting baseball themed manipulatives.
Mini Lesson:
Students will sit in a half circle around the teacher. The teacher will bring out a poster board with baseball manipulatives. Students will be asked to count baseballs and bats. Once the manipulatives are counted students will be asked to match the correct number next to the manipulatives.
Focus: Students will demonstrate an increased familiarity of literary texts building a foundation for them to understand sequencing and parts of a story. Teaching Point: Students will learn numbers through counting bats and baseballs.
Linguistic Focus: Students will begin to understand number concepts through manipulatives and counting.
I do/You watch: The teacher will count the first line of baseballs and bats.
Active engagement: Advanced learners will be asked to count the number of baseballs and bats putting the sum of the two together. Intermediate learners will be asked to count only one type of manipulative.
Link: During one to one instruction students will be given activities after the large group lesson. These teacher made activities will be differentiated from the Unique curriculum. . Advanced learners will be given an addition activity. Early and intermediate learners will be given a counting activity.
