INTRODUCTION
A Kathmandu Holdings Limited is a chain of retail stores and selling outdoor clothing equipment for travel and adventure. It started off during the outdoor adventure boom in the mid-80s, with its first production in Christchurch, New Zealand and first retail store in Melbourne, Australia (Kathmandu Holdings, 2013, para. 2). Since then, the company has expanded to numerous stores in New Zealand and Australia, currently owning 133 stores with 42 in New Zealand, 72 in Australia, and another 6 stores in the United Kingdom (Kathmandu Holdings, 2013, para. 2). The company offers various products range. It covers both outdoor and travel clothing and equipment that suits any customer needs, from the experienced adventurer to the entry-level explorer, with an approximate product breakdown of around 60% apparel and 40% equipment (Kathmandu Holdings, 2013, para. 2 & 4).
This report is intended to assess the company of its macro-environment, competitive dynamics, and its competition strategy. Its financial statements will also be analysed through ratio, common-base, and percentage analysis with the objective of providing a recommendation as to its investment desirability.
