The Life of a Military Brat

Who really knows what life is like for the children of the military? No one would know, but a child who grew up around the military. These kids are known as military brats, I am not crazy about the name. Military brat sort of entitles military kids as little brats, but we’re not. I myself love being a military brat for many reasons. For one thing I get to meet all kinds of people, from different countries. I learn about People who have different lifestyles and beliefs from me. Most of the people I meet speak a different language from me, but when you the same age. You tend to know what each other likes and dislike. I have really come to learn that no matter what country you are from, you can still like

The dissipating war of Vietnam still continues to affect America today. The only thing that keeps Vietnam alive is the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. The memorial covers more than 58,000 American men and women who died in Vietnam fighting for our county. Lacking the glory and heroism the war memorial shows, there is a silent reminder of the losses of the American soldiers. What the war did to the United States was unspeakable and it still has an overwhelming morality.…

When donating money to organizations many people are worried about if their money is even going to the organization or, if it’s going into someone else’s pocket. Organizations tell people that their money goes to helping people, animals, or anything that will manage to get your attention. Veterans Day isn’t about relaxing at home or hanging with friends. Instead, it’s about remembering those who served in the war and died, and honoring the military soldiers. It first started on November 11, 1919. Just one American Veteran is still alive today: 108-year-old Frank Buckles. In order to recognize Veterans Day, the Dublin society should host a community walk, wear white, and bring in real soldiers to talk.…

A legal federal holiday on Veterans Day is commemorated in United States on November 11 on annual basis. The purpose on the back end to celebrate Veterans Day is to render prestige, tribute and honor to the folks who willingly contributed in US Armed Forces. The rationale to call this day specifically a veterans day is that the armed forces are also called as “veterans”. Speaking globally, the Remembrance Day and Armistice Day coincides to forge out one day which was then called as Veterans Day in 1954. Ultimately, the crux is spurted out in the shape of Veterans Day.…

I do not agree with the reinstitution of a military draft. In 1973 the military draft was lifted in the United States and with good reason. The United States should not rely on a draft to fill military vacancies but rely on recruitment. It is true that the military offers incentives and luxuries that some civilians could not afford otherwise such as food, shelter, and medical care. However, they are just that, incentives. The military is an option and should remain that way. Many enlist for different reasons, some with economical reasons, others with strong political urges, but they enlist out of their own desires, beliefs, and more importantly, free will. Some see the military as a way of life; others see it as the only way to educate themselves in a society where education is valued so highly. With rising tuition costs, many enlist in the reserves as a guarantee for their degree. College is costly and even with the aid of tuition assistance and can leave a graduate drowning in debt. These are all choices all college bound 18-25 year olds make and some just do not have the luxury of choosing.…

Choosing to enlist as an active duty member or a reserve duty member is one of the primary choices that will affect your entire military career. Before making a decision, most people should consider the amount of days worked and the duty station for both fields, their career after they return from military training, and the benefits and retirement. Those who have a good stable job, do not want to separated away from their families or homes, want to continue/go to college full-time should choose to go to the Air Force Reserve rather than active duty.…

BRAT seems like an offensive word, but believe me, it isn’t. The term BRAT is actually an acronym that means Born, Raised and Trained. Being born into a Military family on a military base, more specifically Fort Hood, I have lived in the military for 15 years, which is 83% of my childhood. Being raised in the military can also change to how a person reacts to something. For example, I had a non-military friend who was afraid that she would move over the summer and my other non-military friends were also afraid of this happening, but as I was raised in the military I was used to seeing friends come and go. The Trained part means that kids are trained to follow the military life like being polite to those of higher rank and occasionally learning Military Terms. BRATs also spend almost all of their childhood on bases as they are essentially just small cities that have a barbed wire fence around them. The four words that all BRATs don’t want to hear are “I’m getting deployed.” I recall after Haiti was struck by the earthquake in 2010 my mother was sent down to help with the relief effort and I didn’t want her to leave. Additionally my father was also in the military and had actually been deployed to Iraq, he still has the blanket. Seeing how I have moved around so much that it feels unnatural not to move to…
