Miscommunication By Peeta Summary
I think Peeta’s feelings for Katniss were genuine and he wanted to protect her and help her survive. While the two were in the cave, Peeta tells the story about when he first developed his crush for Katniss. He tells the story so vividly and Katniss’ thoughts after show that it was truthful. “That part about my father and the birds. And I did sing the first day of school, although I don't remember the song. And the red plaid dress... there was one” (184) This allows the reader to understand that Peeta’s feelings aren’t a façade he made up, but his feelings are truthful. His reasoning behind never acting upon his feelings were because he couldn’t relate to her as much since she was living in the Seam as to him living in the town. The stark contrast in living situations along with the presence of Gale kept him from sharing his feelings with her. …show more content…
During their conversation in the cave where Peeta shares the first time he started having feelings for her, he mentions how he never worked up the courage to talk to her until after the reaping. ‘“So in a way, my name being drawn in the reaping was a real piece of luck.” says Peeta” (184) Being a tribute alongside Katniss gave Peeta a common ground which gave him the courage to talk to her. Peeta has always tried to protect Katniss whenever he could. He burnt bread when they were kids to help her and her family survive after Katniss’ Father died.
