In the transcript Ramsay uses many features of language, for example, imperatives, declarative sentences, threatening language and many more. In this particular transcript in the first paragraph Ramsay states: “this place is a filthy mess (2).” He uses his experience to criticize Abby (the trainee chef). He makes the audience seem as though he is always right. He then says “this is you with 30 years in the business” he tries to put Abby down and make her feel ashamed and intimidated. I think this makes Abby feel small because she has been in the business 30 years she feels as though she is a good chef.
Ramsay uses threatening language to get his staff to obey his commands. Ramsay says: “don’t you dare” and “listen to me” this shows Ramsay has power and authority over his staff/ Abby. He makes Abby feel inadequate and makes her realise that he is the boss and they should do things on his terms. Gordon treats Abby like an under-chef just because he has high qualifications and she hasn’t.
Swearing is a big part of Ramsay’s idiolect as he is known for swearing on his TV shows a lot. He say to Abby she is a “fucking cunt.” Gordon swears to show he is angry. He also swears because he knows that this gets the attention of the audience,
