Monologue From Palmyra Atoll Sullivans
Palmyra Atoll Joseph.Evans

“Attention, everyone.” The scratchy loudspeaker announced. ”Our navigation system is down, so we will have a delay in landing.” We heard everyone groan. They were already tired of the bad service the plane offered. The passengers couldn't deal with it anymore. But they had to. But that didn't matter to my friend and I, we ignored the bad food, the smelly guy next to us and the badly kept bathroom. Because we were going to Hawaii. We've heard many good things about Hawaii, so we are expecting to have a great time. We overheard a man and his wife asking to talk to the pilot. After that, the man got up and went into the cockpit, where the pilot was. After that, we heard yelling, and banging on the door.

A flight attendant

She frowned at the flight attendant, but she didn't notice, and walked away to help another person. A few minutes passed and everything went silent, as if everyone couldn't speak, we could hear nothing but the plane outside. I decided to take a look at what happened in the cockpit. As I opened the door, and see both, the man, and the pilot, unconscious and bleeding on the floor. I stood there in horror. But I didn’t scream, because I knew I would make everyone panic. I shut the door behind me. I looked out the window, and see the trees coming towards us, slowly. The plane was losing altitude! …show more content…
“Ok, sure, but I have one question- is it safe to come out of the plane?” he asked.

“What do you mean?” I asked back.

“I don't know, I just… sense something bad outside.”

“Alright, but can I know your name?

“It's, Kyle.”

I hear faint voices behind us, so I look back. I see a young couple, kneeling on the floor of the plane behind some broken seats.

They don't say anything for a while. I get Kyle out of the plane, and came back. As I walk closer I realized the woman was hurt. Her leg was cut by a piece of broken glass. “Can you walk?” I asked. “ I don't think so,”she said with a frightened look on her face. She started to get up but winced in pain. I carried her out of the plane

They don't say anything for a while. I get Kyle out of the plane. And right when I'm about to get out, the husband asks me-

“Can we come with you?”

I replied, “Sure, why not?” Follow me.

When we are out of the plane I realize what Kyle meant, it did seem dangerous out here. But I'm not going to let the island get to my head. I have to help these people survive.”

Everyone sensed something in the forest, something bad, something… evil.

“Anyone going to go in there?” I asked.

“Um, no, no thanks, I'm good,” Kyle

Climbing into the lime green car, my fear was over taking me. I was getting ready to ride the Titan, an adrenaline pumping roller coaster ride at Six Flags. It was easily the scariest ride at the park, in my opinion, with its enormous peaks, its deep descents, and double helix like turns was enough to make me sick. The ride began. Ascending up in the car on the canary yellow track, into the humidity filled, bright sky, the people observing from below resembled little army ants . The aerial view of Dallas was breathtaking, as I reached the peak of the ride and looked around. Passengers occupying the cars in front of me started falling off, like a cliff. I let out a high-pitched shrill, as we plummeted toward the Earth below. Traveling…

“Passengers flying Flight QF563, please be advised that Flight QF563 has been delayed for an hour, we apologise for any inconvenience”, the groans and murmurs from other passengers clearly demonstrated the irritation and anger that was felt by them. The airline we were flying with were one of the most reliable airlines in the world, so the fact that a flight of theirs was an hour delayed had obviously bewildered me, and a number of other people.…

It is 8:44 as I tediously begin sorting out my notes and papers of past meetings, the clock ticks by. 16 seconds…17 seconds…18 seconds I count in my head. Words begin to float off the paper as I anxiously await my next meeting. 58 seconds… 59 seconds… 8:45 p.m. Tapping my pen on the desk, earns a nasty look from the old lady in the next nook, but I continue defying, shaping a rhythm in my head. 16 seconds…17 seconds…18 seconds. Workers around the room get up creating a commotion. What’s going on? I stand, make my way to the window, and see that there’s a plane right outside; people begin to scream. Looking closer, a terrifying realization hits me, it’s too low, it’ll hit the building. The sound of people running teases my ears. 30 seconds…31…

For most of the 100 or so sleepy-eyed people boarding the U.S. Airways shuttle to Boston from New York on a recent hazy Saturday morning, the 35-minute flight could not have been a bigger non-event. But that was not the case for about 20 passengers clustered nervously near the gate. Many clutched puzzle books and bags of sour candy as though they held talismans. Some made nervous jokes, others sobbed quietly. “I have pills with me just in case of an emergency,” said a teenage girl who planned to distract herself on the flight with celebrity magazines. Mariasol Flouty, a 44-year-old software developer from White Plains, held fast to her Sudoku book. “I had plane-crash nightmares,” she confessed. “I woke up very tense.” No one was more terrified than Beth Brenner, a 45-year-old mother of two teenagers from Somers, N.Y. “I was hysterical last night,” she said, “but my son said, ‘You’re going to be O.K.’ ” Ms. Brenner was crying quietly on the…

Because I was at the back, I couldn't tell what was going on in the first class section. Three people with red bandannas entered the cockpit. The had left one person outside of the cockpit who was holding something in his hand. After a minute or so, they came back out of the cockpit dragging two bodies behind them. They went back in the cockpit and within a minute we were told from the new pilot that they had a bomb on board. They allowed us to make phone calls. I was the first one to be able to make a call. My parents didn't pick up the phone, so I left a message telling them that my plane had been hijacked. After I left a message, I sat down in my seat and let others…

On June 12, 2006, I was ready to board my flight at San Diego International airport, when I was given a once in a lifetime experience. As I began to board, the captain and first officer were greeting the passengers ahead of me. The line was moving very slowly; however, I eventually made it to the front. The captain and I began talking when all of a sudden he asked a very typical question, “What do I want to be when I grow up?” I responded, “I want to be a pilot” and for no apparent reason offered to take me into the cockpit. Inside the cockpit, the captain continued to talk about the plane while pointing to instruments such as altimeter and vertical speed indicator, when I suddenly asked him, “How did he become a pilot?” He responded by saying,…

When I was young I always dreamed of flying on a plane. Finally, my dream was coming true, and I was on my way to the USA where I had always known I would end up. This was my first trip on an airplane, and it was also one of the most memorable experiences of my life. I remember everything about my first flight, and it was a lot to remember since it took twenty-seven hours from start to finish. The fight did have one stop in Japan, but that was just to change planes. Once my parents and I got onto the plane and sat down, I started to look at everything around me. I noticed the small white air vents right above my head with little lights next to the vent. It was so great because the controls were right on my armrest. There was a place on the armrest to plug the headphones in in order to listen to music or watch a movie. After everyone got settled into their seats, the airhostess came over the intercom and explained all of the safety procedures. But I am going to tell you; I couldn’t understand what they say, besides staring at their body language. They also showed everyone how to put the seat belts on correctly. After the airhostess was done with…
