Monologuel Incident In The Dominican Republic
So 2 days after that hurling incident we were in the Dominican Republic this about everyone's least favorite place out of the 3 places we went to. 1st was the beaches weren't that great I mean we all hang out there, then came the worst part the people who sold things every person who asked the conversation all ways went the same way. “ Do you want toy or do you want a hat my friend?” Me trying to be respectful said this “ No sir “and that repeated 10 times per person. Finally we got back on the ship, even though the Dominican Republic wasn't as fun as I expected it was still a great time. Lucky for me though we would get to Grand Turk the next afternoon. So then that afternoon came I didn't know what would eventually happen, so I was super happy that day.

We were all going to be able to scuba dive and since the water there was even clearer than the Bahamas we would be able to see the fish easily. The we board the other ship it was smaller but me and my family went. It started out fine it was really cool until the ship started rocking. My stomach began to fizzle up and shake I decided to hold it then I could no longer control the smelly disgusting barf and it bursted out my mouth like an erupting volcano, It looked lumpy, I didn't feel it but the barf look like it was ready to ooze across the ship it was so slimy! Then a couple of minutes went by and we were at the spot where we need to be. I told my dad I was ok and I proceeded to get up. But no I barfed again the I had to sit up and I wasn't in the know that we were doing this only and going back to the ship so I thought peacefully “ It will get better eventually and I will still be able to have fun here.” But with such great timing my dad

In Leif Jensen’s article, “Ethnic Identities, Language, and Economic Outcomes among Dominicans in a New Destination,” Jensen observes Dominican immigrants, who migrated to Reading, Pennsylvania from the Dominican Republic, and how they identify themselves in America. He and his fellow researchers start their observations by giving some of the Dominicans, in Reading, surveys about their homes, health, stress, migration history, and other things. They find that 7.6 percent of Reading’s population is Hispanic, which is double Harrisburg’s percentage (Harrisburg is the community with the next closest percentage of Hispanics). They also used open-ended questions concerning race to give the respondents the opportunity to indicate how they classify…

In the extent of attempting to conjure a sense of understanding of how nationalism and ethno racial stratification manifested within the Dominican Republic Author Amelia Hintzen delves into the critical examination of the historical components regarding Dominican dictator Rafael Trujillo and his imposition of government campaigns against Haitian migrants in the early 20th century. Hintzen posits an unstudied dimension of analysis which includes a failed plan to massively deport Haitians which inevitably led to the 1937 border massacre which left thousands dead. Hintzen examines the degree to which the Trujillo regime enacted violence in attempts to forcefully disintegrate as a means of compelling obedience from local authorities which had resisted government attempts to supersede their jurisdiction.…

Just a couple of weeks in, people were already dying off and I was worried if I were to also be taken by sickness. The waves and storms tossed the ship back and forth so no one dared to go up on deck. It was very dirty inside and the stench of all the people stuffed inside the ship made it harder to breathe. Finally, after over a month, and after the health inspection, I was getting closer and closer to my new home.…

Living back in the Dominican Republic I used to have a very easy life. Then I was living in my grandparents’ house in the suburb; where everything was very repeatedly: Wake up, eat, go to school, go back home, eat, do homework, play, eat once again and go back to sleep. Weekends were my favorites though; every Sunday we would go out for lunch, which usually I would be the one to pick, and as an usual seven-eight years old child my favorite thing back then was Pizza.…

The Dominican Republic, known for its beautiful beaches and balmy weather, was the last place I ever imagined I would find myself in this past summer vacation. On this week long trip, it wasn't for the warm ocean waves or the traditional Dominican cuisine I was called to, I was called to serve the beautiful Dominican people. On the third day of the trip, instead of heading out to the worksite where we had been pouring the concrete footers of a plastics and water filter factory, I opted to travel with a group to the childrens' cancer ward in Santiago and visit the patients. We started out our visit by performing a few dances we had taught our vacation bible school and handing out fun little gift we had brought with us. We played ball with some…

Throughout my life I’ve been fortunate enough to travel outside of the country to Puerto Penasco multiple times. In the first trips I never thought about the people or the conditions surrounding the place I was traveling to. I was naïve and unable to understand my surroundings. However, as I matured the way I viewed Puerto Penasco changed as did my worldly perspective. I was able to understand the divide of wealth in Mexico, how the drug trade is affecting those who don’t want anything to do with it, the beautiful culture and people of Puerto Penasco and how U.S.A is benefiting and improving this amazing country.…

I boarded the boat thinking it wouldn’t be that bad. I was wrong. I stayed in the steerage for months. The steerage is the below deck part of the boat where the steering mechanisms are. It was disgusting, dark and cramped. Although we were under such conditions, I still managed to make a few friends. The sad part is I watched many of them get sick and eventually die. This one boy in particular fell seriously ill practically over night. He seemed to be in excruciating pain. I was lucky I didn’t come down with the same sickness.…

Arriving safely in Florida felt amazing. My mom had told me my aunt and uncle would be waiting to pick me up and drive me to their house. They had a guest bedroom waiting to be my room for the whole summer. I said bye to my new friend Jaden and got off the plane. I made sure I had all of my luggage and that nothing has been removed. I walked to where my aunt and uncle said they would meet me. I was new to this airport so it was hard for me to find where anything was. I eventually ended up finding them of course, but I had to ask several people for…
