I recently found a list of goals that I had written 20 years ago. Most of the goals were realistic and I was able to achieve them. While I was checking the items off my list that I accomplished, there was one that I have debated about for many years—returning to school to earn a degree. Returning to school has always been achievable; however, as each year of my life sped by and I got older, I always came up with more and more excuses as to why I should not return to school. One day I received a course catalog in the mail showing online classes at the college. I decide that an online class would be the first step to my future. I am so grateful for the first day of that class. All the excuses and delays regarding returning to school were in vain. It is amazing the different prospective I know have about being a child verses an adult in school.…
At the beginning of 2013 I had a discussion with my co worker about returning…
I would like to go to a 4-year college in the mainland. The reason that I would like to go to a 4-year college is so that I could be the first one in my family to graduate high school and also graduate college. Another reason for me wanting to pursue going to a 4-year college is my siblings, I want to be a good example for them in life because I am the oldest and they look up to me. Going to a 4-year college will not only affect my life in a positive way but it will affect my families as well. Being the oldest and being the first one out of your family to graduate high school and also graduate college will prove to me and my family that anything is possible if you just put your mind to…

College is important to me for many reasons. For example, In the article, “Getting Ready for College Early : Steps 1,2,3 & 4 “ , by the U.S Department of Education, it states that someone who goes to college earns more than someone who does not. By going to college, you will have a higher chance of having a better job and win more money. College is great and can help you have a better future. Additionally, In the 4th article by Allen Grove, he states that your record form your middle school years don’t appear on your college applications. You can enjoy your middle school years without being so stressed about what you do and it going on your record. That I think is something positive , since middle school is one of the worst years for a teen.…
Reflecting back onto my senior year; my father had recently gotten a job promotion, my sister was attending Duke University, and I established relationships with my animals. The topic I choose for my personal essay to send to college was not hard to figure out. My first horse was brought to me at 4 months old, where she strode away from human contact. After she gained trust, she grew to become wild and engaged in attention. Visitors would stop by her pasture to watch her prance and buck through the hills of the forest. Her personality reflected my own. Moving to North Carolina helped me create an identity for myself, while traveling to Cuba before starting college helped me gain confidence with…

College is one of the periods of life where there is most growth, both personally and academically. Going to college is a very challenging yet rewarding experience. It brings people out of their comfort zones personally, whereas academically, people get to focus more on what they are good at. In my case, it will be a challenge to adapt to the college environment at the same time that it will be very comfortable to finally study subjects that truly interest me. This exciting challenge is the main reason I want to go to college. Most people want to go to college to get a degree and earn a lot of money, which leads them to more expensive and selective colleges. I, on the other hand, intend to focus more on the course and the subjects I will study.…
When I have homework I feel pretty normal because we almost always have homework. Sometimes we have a ton of homework in other subjects and then we have math homework. On these nights I feel like I don't have enough time to do it because I have other after school activities that might take away three hours at most on some nights. Even though I have a lot of homework some nights I finish it but I'm usually up really late so the next day I’m really tired. This makes me not pay as much attention in some classes that I would normally pay a lot of attention in. It’s not so much the written homework that gets me so much. It’s the test that we have crammed in every week. So, in summary, the homework isn't usually to bad but when it gets staked up…
Yes, I have had to overcome personal and family adversities in order to attend college. I was adopted in Nigeria by my uncle and I lived with him in Houston. I was physically, emotionally and mentally abused by him. While i was living with him, i was still an illegal immigrant and he constantly used my immigration status to threaten me. I moved to Dallas to get away from him. I had to attend a community college and by God's grace I got the STEM scholarship which helped me pay for my tuitions and books. I am currently working with the Human Right Initiative who took my immigration case based on the abuse I have been through and they are helping me with the options i have to become a legal…
Imagine someone being 17 years old with a few months left until high school graduation and on their own with the future to think about; that person was me. I decided that I was going to wait a couple of years before I went back to school and I really wish that I wouldn’t have. If I wouldn’t have waited, I would already be done with my degree and making good money. Students should attend college immediately after high school to better their education, achieve independence, and earn higher wages.…

The teachers whose in charge, whether its a He or she could tell you how to dress for the first day and the things you need. Since you’re a new student and have no idea of the rules, They will probably tell you about things that are prohibited by the school to be worn on the first day, no skinny jeans, no mohawk hairstyles, no braceletes, no crop tops, and manyore. Moving in to college came with many changes and adjustments. First was my living situation. I have never had to share space with people with a different schedule than mine. At home my family all got up at the same time and went to bed at similar times. In college that is not the case. My suite mates and I run on opposite schedules. Having to be quiet in the morning when they are still sleeping is a major adjustment for me. This has allowed me to practice curtesy in being quiet in the morning.…
