Hypertension is related to high sodium intake and many fast food chains season their foods with a lot of salt. As seen from her food chart, we can tell that Mrs Miley has a high consumption of fast food. She should cut down on these food items that are rich in sodium as hypertension can further lead to stroke. Mrs Miley is consuming foods that are high in cholesterol and this can cause the arteries to be narrowed and hardened, and thus preventing sufficient oxygen to travel throughout the body. Plaque can also cause angina. Angina is pain of the chest that occurs when the insufficient oxygen travels to the heart. High cholesterol is also highly dangerous, since no symptoms of it can be observed until the damage occurs. (Larson N, 2010) This puts the elderly in even more danger since most elderly live alone and might not be able to get help in time if such a health problem suddenly occurs.
Mrs Miley’s diet is also high in carbohydrates and according to the Education Portal (n.d.), this can lead to dental problems like dental caries or health problems like type 2 diabetes. In this case where a high calorie diet is accompanied with high carbohydrate intake, two conditions can happen. Firstly, the body might not be able to create enough insulin. Secondly, the body might not be able to respond to the hormone. Sugar molecules hence won’t be able to reach body cells to generate energy for the body, but instead stay in the bloodstream, leading to type two
