Multiculturalism is not dead, it was never an option!
If you google multiculturalism, a series of articles arrive in your homepage and they all state: multiculturalism is not dying is already dead or, actually, it was never an option. A variegated group of politics is quoted in those articles ranging from Chancellor Angela Merkel to the former UK PM David Cameron. After a quick look at those articles I must admit that I agree with this view: I think multiculturalism is a weak theory because it is impossible to maintain without some degrees of assimilation. Multiculturalism is dying and I don’t envisage there is still a possibility for it to be saved. From the very premises of the concept it was clear that this theorization was not going to last: there is no clear definition of what is multiculturalism. There is no definition because there is no case of complete multiculturalism that completely avoids assimilation. On the paper, Canada was the first multicultural state in the world when it passed the Multiculturalism Act in 1988, but when Canadian people were asked in a survey questions regarding aspects of multiculturalism the results showed a marked difference. Fanaticism can hide in multiculturalism and be justified by it: several attacks have been carried out in the name of supremacy of a culture over the other. If on paper multiculturalism is a completely equalitarian theory, its application to reality is different. People will always think their culture is the most equal, right, and the less problematic: humans always consider their interest first as well as their ideas. Assimilation is the remedy against human egoism, against fanaticism. Multiculturalism is not failing, it was never a possibility. Assimilation is the solution, bring in the best and leave out the
