My Co-Op Placement Analysis
My co-op placement as a first grade teacher at Moraine Hills Public School had the greatest impact on me. Growing up, I have always wanted a career where I can help others in a positive light. However, being more reserved and shy made the decision of becoming a teacher more difficult. By volunteering at summer camps, festivals and extra-curriculars, my communication and social skills improved, but the placement was the focal point of my high school career. It helped me break out of my shell and gave me an insight of the teaching experience. The greatest learning outcome for me is to be flexible, open and creative. I learned that teaching is not just about the structure given, but how one can make the structure interesting and engaging for the

I use to think that being a teacher was going to be a short eight hours of teaching and being with children. Having summers off made being a teacher seem a lot more beneficial to. Being a teacher seemed to be the easiest career choice out there for me. After viewing the second grade classroom in Shepherdstown Elementary it is safe to say that I have changed my opinion of teaching. There is unquestionably another side to the world of a teacher that can only be seen inside a classroom. Watching the students made me realize that being a teacher will no doubt carry some difficulties but, it will all pay off in the end. Observing has made me realize that there is more to teaching, the classroom, and what goes on inside.…

Since I was initially a nursing student when I entered college, I had never considered becoming a teacher. Ever since I can remember, I have always wanted a career where I could serve others, and I always believed that being a nurse would allow me to achieve this goal. Still, I fell in love with the education field the moment I started volunteering and aiding in my aunt's classrooms, which they taught grades TK– 4. I immediately changed my major because it makes me feel extremely fortunate to think that one day I would be able to teach, laugh, and help my kids in the same manner that my aunts do. To begin with, I worked as a student intern, as a tutor for the Advancement Via Individual Determination program for four years.…

My mom was the first in her family to graduate college, and my dad never went to college. This caused my parents to place a huge emphasis on education. Attending a private school I really received a great education. Then my dad lost his job and I had to attend a public school which was brand new experience. The classes were larger and there weren't many resources available. For instance, we had to sometimes share books with other students because we didn't have enough for everyone. With this setback we still had amazing teachers who were passionate about teaching. My teachers throughout the years showed me the importance of dedicated and passionate educators. These experiences led to my interest in Teach For America and their mission to strengthen the educational equity m. I have had the chance to serve as a tutor, a peer advisor, and as a teaching assistant for a variety of courses while I was an undergraduate and in my current role as an AmeriCorps VISTA. Through these positions, I had to chance to lead class periods and I have found that I enjoy teaching at the university level, as compared to the times that I have helped with elementary and middle school classes. I fully enjoy seeing students finally understand a concept they have had trouble with and connecting students with their passion. Watching them take that spark and ignite it into something much larger than themselves has been one of the most rewarding…

During the summer before my senior year of high school, I was involved in one of the most influential opportunities I had ever encountered. I was given the chance to volunteer my time at Schneck Medical Center. I chose to volunteer in the rehabilitation department; this helped fuel my desire to want to become a physical therapist. While at the rehabilitation center, I got involved in multiple positions that taught me how to be a better leader and how to successfully use teamwork. Working in the office taught me leadership roles. While in the office, I had to check the patients in for their appointments and paged therapists for their appointments. This position showed me how to take charge and make sure that things in the rehabilitation center…

Poverty, the lack of money, goods, and support, has been a major problem for many people. There are millions of people in America living in poverty today. There are those that really need help, and there are those who can support themselves but choose not to. Where there is poverty, there is welfare. The financial help of people in need, welfare, has been around for quite some time. Some of the basic programs offered for those who apply for a welfare program in America are health care, food stamps, child care assistance, cash aid, and housing assistance. Many people living in poverty are on one, if not all, of those welfare programs. Welfare programs have a negative effect on America by sustaining the high poverty rate. “That is because the…

Birth to three is an amazing period in a young child’s life, full of developmental growth and change. During this time infants and toddlers make tremendous gains in their cognitive, physical, communication, and social emotional development. Humans are social beings, babies included who are born with the innate ability to be “emotional communicators” (Wittmer & Petersen, 2014, p. 111). The area of emotional development includes developing relationship attachments, developing a sense of self, and the ability to understand and regulate one’s emotions. An emotional curriculum along with Feeling Buddies, is a great combination to target better emotional understanding and regulation with young toddlers, ages 2-3.…

After I graduated from high school May of 2010, I took some time to think about the career path that I wanted to follow. A couple months after I graduated from high school, I applied for a job at the Early Explorers Head Start in Anamoose, ND. I did not get the job that I applied for but that was okay because the next day I got a call from the School District offering me another job. They offered me the job of the assistant substitute teacher in the Early Explorers classroom. I accepted the job offer and started working in September of 2010. I loved the job so much. There was also something special in the job for me, my baby brother was also in that class. My experiences have been very rewarding so far and have inspired me to want to continue along this path and seek further knowledge in the field. It truly does mean so much to me knowing that I have helped those children learn so many new things in life that will help them with their social and cognitive development.…
