Teach For America Personal Statement
My mom was the first in her family to graduate college, and my dad never went to college. This caused my parents to place a huge emphasis on education. Attending a private school I really received a great education. Then my dad lost his job and I had to attend a public school which was brand new experience. The classes were larger and there weren't many resources available. For instance, we had to sometimes share books with other students because we didn't have enough for everyone. With this setback we still had amazing teachers who were passionate about teaching. My teachers throughout the years showed me the importance of dedicated and passionate educators. These experiences led to my interest in Teach For America and their mission to strengthen the educational equity m. I think I will be a great fit for Teach For America because I received an education in a low income

community, posses the capabilities to relate with these students on a personal level, and can incorporate real world connections and experiences into school material. In addition, I think being able to witness someone succeed and give back to their community will hopefully encourage students to do the same. Personally, Teach For America is great for me because I have a love for children, passion for teaching, an understanding that learning is an ongoing process, and I recognize the role school plays in a child’s life.
My time being camp counselor was definitely one of the best experiences I've had so far. My experience as a camp counselor I acquired leadership skills, organized activities, identified and responded to behavioral problems, and communicated concerns with parents. I believe my experience as a camp counselor has already provided me a good foundation for being a teacher. I intend to be apart of Teach for America to explore my strengths, weaknesses, and acquire teaching techniques to address the different needs of individual learners. I believe the teacher’s role will help me to develop myself, both academically and personally. Being an educator you make an influential impact on a child’s life that will shape their youth, and stay with them through adulthood. I have every confidence that I have the necessary qualities to become a school teacher and be apart of the Teach For America
movement.
