My Establishment Within The Soroptimist Club
“I raise up my voice—not so I can shout, but so that those without a voice can be heard...we cannot succeed when half of us are held back” (Malala Yousafzai). This is one of my most favorite quotes because it truly speaks gender equality, empowerment, education, diversity, and fellowship for women. When I first joined the Soroptimist Club, I was first empowered to live freely as women. Not only did the club change my view of women and girls, but once I was empowered as a woman, I made it a responsibility for me to empower the lives of many other girls. This essay will focus on my goals, roles, and accomplishment within the Soroptimist Club. I will also focus on my volunteer experience within various other organizations.

I joined the club when I was in the seventh grade and the club has truly changed my life. I was always an introverted and hidden girl, but the club has helped me to break out of my shell and expose me to the world. The Club taught me how to be free as women and to not let fear of how society depicts women to get in the way of what I truly want to do. This is seen as I spent two years in the club, I gained enough confidence to run for Treasurer of the club my Freshmen year. During my sophomore year, I ran for Vice President of the Club; here I am now, as the President of the Club. Now, the positions I have taken was not, for a chance, at all, taken for its name. I took the positions because, with each position, I was given the opportunity to spread the true meaning of the club and create services and other opportunities for the members of the club. With each position, I was able to empower women my age, younger and older than me to open up to the world and be free. To be free from discrimination and to be free to act in their own best interest. I did this by opening up opportunities for each individual to volunteer and gain confidence in themselves and I could never have done this without Soroptimist …show more content…
Volunteering for the club has truly help me to gain the strength and power to take new opportunities offered to me. Through services such as Soroptimist Club Auction in Waikiki; I was able to gain in my interpersonal skills. I was given the opportunities to speak my opinion on the items I was trying to sell. Not only this, but I was open to the idea that women can be businesswomen as well, not just men. As a volunteer, my main accomplishment has got to be the very fact that I was able to change the lives of other girls. I am grateful to have gotten the chance to open up a new world for girls my age. My own empowerment lies within empowering other women. With each person I connect with, my voice becomes louder and stronger. Nevertheless, I am forever grateful for Soroptimist Club; the club has changed my life for the better. Soroptimist Club holds a special place in my heart and gives me the chance to utilize my personal and professional skills as well as allow me to learn and grow. I am able to continue to spread female empowerment throughout the

“What do you want to be when you grow up?” my friends, guidance counselor, parents, college applications, ask. When I was six I wanted to be Hannah Montana. When I was 12, nothing had changed but I reasoned I could have a second job too – just in case. I’m 17 now and I’ve been exposed to a deluge of astounding things: timeless authors, transformational historical events, jaw-dropping scientific discoveries, emotionally riveting political and social revolutions and at the fringes of it all - sometimes in the center - I’ve imbibed the powerful influence of the female voice in a world historically dominated by men.…

Participation in a club is seen as a part of a well-rounded person, and teenagers are told when they are applying for college that they will look more appealing if they have participated in many community changing clubs. As people get older they are asked to participate in a clubs ranging from parent-student clubs or book clubs. A club represents a way to enjoy oneself and work outside of one’s profession; it is known as an activity of high esteem. People who participate in clubs are often seen as people who have good time management and a big heart. Many clubs promote volunteer work, team activities, leadership, and help foster morality as well as good choices that will benefit a whole community. One of the specific reasons that clubs are seen as a positive part of our culture is because all school clubs consist of administration approved activities, and because of this it doesn’t allow for a negative club to be created. Clubs can only exist if apart of one of the following categories: fundraising, community service, career interest and interpersonal dynamic. Because of this the word “club” will never be associated with anything other than a group of people who want to divulge themselves into a hobby or service project. Clubs originated in the Victorian times in Britain, functioning as a place for men to attend lectures and participate in recreational activities. Over time they developed as a part of women’s culture (book club, sewing club, cooking club). This was especially true throughout times when women were supposed to be only the care takers of the house and children, as well as social with other mothers. Since then they have developed a connotation that pushes children and adults to be progressive, have a hobby outside of work, and enjoy themselves while (most of the time) helping…

I walked with my chin held high, I began straying away from the group of associates that did not benefit me emotionally or academically. I saw a change within the first week and so did everyone around me. But of course, a short retreat can only have a short-term result. Miss Nadia strongly believed that a 3 day retreat isn’t enough to provoke young girls to become advocates for their community, so she made sure that we had to attend mandatory events throughout the year in order to keep an active status in the program. It was only a matter of time before I was back to my old ways. We were required to volunteer at program events during the year to help other girls. It was nostalgic seeing these girls in my shoes, I was eager to see them progress, as I…

The countless clubs I joined included: FFA, Key Club, Honor Society, and SADD. I began to really enjoy going to these club activities and I started to become more and more involved. Instead of being the shy girl that I was in middle school, I started to transform and become more and more outgoing over time. Eventually, I had the courage to try and become an officer for my FFA chapter. My sophomore year I became our chapter's reporter, and as time went on I…

Being part of the Environmental Club I made sure to do whatever I could to promote environmental safety, how we could reduce the consumption of electricity and water. Knowing that our earth our home is being depleted of its natural resources it worries me that our future generations will not have a peaceful and beautiful environment. We also participated in Relay for Life where we promoted cancer awareness. With the recycle club we also encouraged people to recycle and distributed recycling binds around the school to all the staff members. The yearbook club allowed me to get to know my school better I would interview sports teams and create pages for them in the yearbook. In the Diversity club I was the Vice-President and our members promoted diversity within our school to help our school’s staff and students learn more about people’s different cultures and backgrounds. This required me to listen to others to let them know that I cared about what they were saying and how they felt. With the National Honors Society, I was able to help out with the Greensboro Interactive Resource Center, providing help for the less fortunate.…

The Boys and Girls Club of America helps thousands of Americans each year as a daycare, escape from home, way to meet new friends or to eat a sustainable meal that they wouldn’t be able to get at home. Another way that the Boys and Girls Club benefits kids is by having organized sports where the players can develop competitiveness, teamwork and become coachable. As someone who volunteers at the Boys and Girls Club I am able to experience all of the good that goes on both within and outside of business hours. As I wrap up my high school career and go on to the next stage in my life I often find myself looking back at not only those who helped shaped me into the person I am today but also the extracurricular activities I participated in. The Boys and Girls Club is one thing that continually pops into my head with the activities I partook in as well as the children and adults alike, without these experiences I would not have devolved my love for basketball, been so willing to give back to the community, or have been showed the do’s and don’ts of parenting.…

Having the opportunity to make new, diverse friends around the community impacted me as a person. The people I met not only included the people I served, but also included the people I worked alongside of me in the food pantry. Since I volunteered at the same day and time every week, I was able to become familiar with many new people. In fact, many of these people were even able to connect to my life. Club, which has taught me a lot of different skills, but the biggest skill that I feel most affected me in learning is taking action. Every year in H.O.P.E. we would decide to raise money and awareness for a different cause. My freshman year we decided to buy life straws for people in need in different countries. We got to witness how the life straws works by putting a lot of dirty water in a container and the drinking it with the life straw. During my sophomore year we decide to get a hydration station for the elementary and middle school kids. I really loved this experience because I still remember how excited the kids were to get their turn on filling up their canteens. It felt really good being able to educate the kids about recycling and using canteens instead of water bottles, so they use less plastic bottles. During junior year we raised money to help give a jungle gym to G3. This year we decided that we wanted to give money to make a well for people that have to walk miles just to get fresh water. The H.O.P.E. Club has really helped me learn that anyone can take action on problems in the world that are big or small. We just have to dedicate time and effort to get things…

All throughout school I have participated in many clubs and organizations that have not only molded me as a person, but have helped me to develop responsibility, and leadership skills. Currently I am an active member of National Honor Society, and DECA. Both of these organizations, provided by my high school, encourage leadership, volunteer work, and have high expectations for behavior, and grades. Being in National Honor Society has shown me to continually do for others in need. There are always opportunities to get involved with the community, and even create drives for things like stuffed animals, and blankets for children who are sick in the hospital, and “Care Catties” for cancer patients, which include tissues, water bottles, hard candy, and lotion. DECA is another organization I am involved in at Frenship High School. DECA is a business organization for high school marketing students looking to learn, develop and compete in a competitive event. I have been a member since my sophomore…
