As I began my finial assignment in English Composition, I looked at my first journal entry and instantly I could see many mistakes I had made. Mostly my significant lack of transitions, I just have short bland sentences/statements simply separated by commas. For example, Wilbanks, M. (2017). Journal entry one: “Now in college courses I sometimes have issues still with placing everything correctly on my paper, I really enjoy learning to write, doing the research is my favorite part of the course, seems to keep my attention to be able to research on line, unlike when all I had was books”. I put all my effort into rereading my papers over and over and while they will sound completely correct to my ear, they are far from correct to my readers, (instructors). Not only can I not place my punctuations correctly, I also have a huge issue with grammar I have a bad habit of using the wrong homonym, or homophones. I know the difference between them, but I seem to use them incorrectly still and don’t catch these mistakes when I proof read. Whereas for all the other parts of the writing process, such as brainstorming to discover a good topic and begin my draft, or the revising of my content, organization, and style of writing; to editing which is the area I can identify and address specific problem areas. Not only have I learned how to do each of these steps in the writing process I know how to separate editing from revising, as for revising is based on organization and my style of writing… editing emphases more on my grammar, punctuation, formatting, and spelling. I had never been proficient at using both methods when writing the only one I was aware of was editing, which consisted only of grammar and punctuation. So, once I started college and choose criminal justice, I was petrified, wondering why I would have to take a writing class, but with further lessons I have realized I really was lacking a lot of the abilities I needed to become a better writer or to even understand writing correctly. After taking this course I can now see the most improvement in my revising of my paper, I can now know how to be better organized with my assignment as to what I have been informed my my professor.
