My Literacy
I guess you could say my literacy career is like any other career. It starts off small, but with some time and growth it blossoms into an outstanding career. Starting from my elementary days, literacy has allowed me to transform and liberate myself. Whether I am reading a novel or writing a song, literacy has always allowed me to engage in my emotions and imagination with absolute freedom.
Growing up reading was introduced to me very young. At night, my mom would read to my sister and I miraculous adventures from the bible. We would even participate and take turns reading our favorite stories. This was the beginning of my career, and my mother nutured my passion for reading with library adventures and one-on-one active readings. I guess I could

I did a complete three-sixty. I would not even stop by the library anymore. I was busy with life, and the less and less time I would have for leisure read. Soon school, work, home-work, and the occasional parties became my only source of rejuvenation and for a while it was touch-and-go. This was a life changing moment for me. I could no longer escape the hot desert of reality to my calm imaginative oasis. I needed a new catch and release that could accomidate my daily scheduele. Journaling was not my cup of tea but writing songs was, so I switched from journaling to song writing. Writing came easy to me, I guess you could say my love for reading helped. The lyrics flowed from me like I was creating some painted masterpiece. I begin to write all types of songs: rap, R&B, pop, country you name it. Thankfully, I could squeeze writing into my schedule. The sky was the now unlimited. Writing was now my new catch and release and I its author. The unintential rhythm of life pushed me into my new adventure and equipped me with the pen. Furthermore, I never would have believed my role would flip, but it was very refreshing new

Finding one book that intrigued Stephanie enough was all it took to make her an everyday reader. The same goes to me. When in my earlier years I hated reading. There were only two things I hated to do. Those two things were reading, and doing what someone told me to do. Hating a combination of the both you could see how the disposition with reading would subsist. It wasn’t until the summer going into middle school that I changed my ideals on the subject.…

People develop from situations and events that alter a person's life for it to either improve or to decline. Reading can only make you a more intelligent person on what is happening around you, and around the world. Each individual has their own literacy journey that is unique to themselves. No one can have the same literacy journey as others, literacy journeys are like fingerprints, no matter how close an individual will be with one another, they will have different fingerprints. I believe, that the introduction to reading at an early age in a person's literacy journey, alters and makes a person who they are later in life.…

By analysing my recent report card (mid-semester 2, 2017) I have discovered several improvements that I have taken into consideration. I have also received good feedback from my teachers concerning my seven subjects. Throughout these subjects (Math, Science, Indonesian, English, Visual art, HPE) I have displayed the seven PLP capabilities, but as always, there is still room for improvement. My literacy skills were shown through my English course in which the teacher said I am “able to write well-constructed paragraphs to develop an argument” and can “create her own justified interpretations.”…

When you hear the word literacy what comes to mind? Do you think of words or school or horrible comprehension tests? When I hear the word literacy none of the above is what comes to my mind. I think of when I was young, no more than five, and I would sit on my grandmother’s warm lap wrapped up in her arms that seemed to protect me from any and everything while she read to me. I think of the struggle and the many trials it took to spell and write my own name, but also relishing in the sense of accomplishment I felt. I think of the times I read along to books my mother would read to my sisters and me until I could read them on my own. Finally, I think of the smiles and proud looks on my parents’ and grandparents’ faces when ever I would show…

I began writing at the very young age of eleven. The first thing I remember writing was a heartfelt song called finished. Even though I was too young to fully understand relationships, I wrote that song as if I had experienced it myself. After I wrote my first song I began to write poetry to express my feelings. Once my mom found out about my writings, I started writing poems for different programs at our church. Throughout the years, I began to enter a variety of poetry contests. In my junior year of high school I wrote a poem about bullying and won first place. Writing is a getaway for me, it always has been and it always will be.…

Like most, when I think of the word literacy my mind automatically goes towards my english classes, poems, papers or readings. This may be because the word has more than one definition, one being “the ability to read or write”. Although, there is another meaning that changes the words interpretation around, “Competence or knowledge in a specific area”. This means anything you consider yourself knowledgeable about is a literacy. Everyone encounters different literacies in their lives.…

My literacy journey had a very interesting beginning. I am a first generation Mexican American, and as being first generation my first language is Spanish, everyone I interacted with when I was young was family or Hispanic. I picked up on some English from watching kid shows but I never really knew what the words meant. Prior to starting preschool, the school got me and my mother into an ELL summer class to get a head start on the school year. Up until around first grade or so I always had to meet with the ELL teacher to check on my progress and make sure I was doing okay in school.…

I just wanted to get the words down. I wrote down my train of thought in that moment, even if I changed the subject completely.
