I’ve always been the type of person looking for approval. I wanted approval from my parents and especially my teachers. Throughout elementary school we had a reading system called ‘Reading Counts’. This system allowed us to read a book and then take a quiz on it to test our knowledge and understanding of the book. When taking these ten question quizzes my classmates and I were able to earn a sticker on the class chart if we received a seven out of ten or higher. If all ten questions were answered correctly you would even be able to pick out a piece of candy. This chart was hanging in the front of the classroom where everyone good see it from any angle of the room. The second you another book would be the marshmallow, and so on. Palmer was my advanced composition teacher in high school. This class challenged me in having to write in different styles rather than what our normal English classes would do. We learned to write in APA format, as well as writing different narratives and stories. The one essay I struggled with in that class was the extended definition essay. I think that by having something not be super easy for me it helped me come up with different strategies to decide what to write about. I believe that this class was my most challenging english class I’ve ever taken, but I learned lots of new things from this class that I can use in my every day life as well as going through the rest of my school years. My other teacher that inspired my writing was Ms. Pohl. In her classes she likes to apply real world situations and I think that helps me in why I need to write and what I need to write about.
