My Mission Statement At Ketchum High School

I attended Ketchum High School in Ketchum, Oklahoma. My school’s mission statement was: “Educating all students in a safe, positive environment through rigorous standards to develop productive members of society. Through accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, data driven decisions, equity, high expectations, and integrity.” One example of my school’s athletic department supporting this statement is through accountability. My basketball coach would find out each of his players’ schedules and have a meeting every two weeks with their teachers. He would access their grades and their behavior throughout class, and would either congratulate you or punish you depending on the answer he was given. Another example of supporting this
He was also assistant athletic director at the time, and he had a lot going on because he coached more than one sport. He trusted a few of my teammates and I enough that he would send us on errands for him during class, thus resulted in us missing lectures, homework assignments, and tests. He gave all of us an “A” in the class, but I think I did maybe ten homework assignments all year. Another example of them not backing the mission statement is through equity. It was very evident that athletes received special treatment at my school. I didn’t have to work very hard at my school for my grades, because I was an athlete. If I made a bad grade on a test, the teacher would give me bonus or let me correct my test to give me a better grade. I didn’t like this personally because I didn’t like being treated differently just because I played a sport. The last example I can think of no supporting the mission statement would be whenever coaches would let us cheat in class. There were assignments given to us in class that it was obvious we all but the exact same answer, but the teachers would never do anything about it because it would cause too much
