The number of students in a classroom setting was what attracted me the most. When I learned about the program a year ago I felt it was too good to be true. When I was completing my bachelor’s degree I never felt that sense of belonging towards my university. I was there to check the box, get the degree and get out. Now it’s different I am looking for an institution that values me as much as I value them. I knew this was true of this university when I meat the Assistant Dean of Admissions Mr. Michael D. Druitt. I am a member of the United States Air Force and had the opportunity to serve on humanitarian medical missions. There are the most humbling experiences I have had. We bring medical care to remote areas, and give basic and extensive care to people that have never seen a doctor in their lives. The team of surgeons I served with was able to give a smile and a chance of a normal life to an infant that had a cleft lip. I was assigned to an anesthesiologist for a semester while completing my bachelor’s degree. I followed his schedule and his surgeries. I would meet with him every day at 4 in the morning to prepare for surgery and interact with the patients that were having procedures later that day. I was able to observe different types of surgeries such as tumor and limb extractions, knee and hip replacements, open heart and brain surgeries. In addition this experience gave me insight of the demand this type of career has in the physician’s personal life.
