My Nursing Philosophy

I do not remember having a divine intervention or anything, nursing has always been part of me. Nursing is something I want to do, something I want to be and something that can be part of me till I die. I think my main source of inspiration to become a nurse definitely came from my mother. My mother worked as a nurse for 20 years in India, and retired about 5 years ago due to sickness in her body. She has been one of the most dedicated person I have ever seen in my life. Especially choosing a place like India was not easy for her, but she gave her all in and worked whole heartily. Helping others in need is what I see the most in nursing, whether it is physically, emotionally or spiritually. Her experience of 20 years was like a book of inspiration
Every day in nursing is different, there is something new to learn, and something new to figure out every day. Nursing gives you the opportunity to positively impact your patients. The willingness to help other people is something all nurses have in common. Not just playing a role of caretaker, but sometimes being a friend someone who they wants to share their worries to and also helping them move forward in life. Nursing helps you explore the holistic approach to medicine, not just focusing on the patient’s specific disease or illness, but also observing their responses. The most effective of helping patients is not only through physical needs, but also meeting their emotional, social, and spiritual needs as well. Nursing also offers very good flexibility unlike any other jobs. The flexibility of nursing will help for a career last a life time unlike any other professions. It helps find jobs and areas that can make you eligible to use your specific strengths and areas of interest, making it easy to find your perfect fit. It is a pleasure for me to be part of this amazing career as I am planning to get into the program by spring 2017.
