The freedom contain within the first amendment is the most important to me is the second P in RAPPS, which means R is for religious, A is for assemble, P is for press, P is for petition, and S is for speech. I say petition because it includes you and what you think. So do the other ones but a petition is for you.…
I had some challenges in the first semester. I realized that it gets harder every year. I felt like ninth grade was a bit easier than this year. The final for English was easy. There were only two questions. We took a final for the novel, To Kill A Mockingbird. My goal is to have good grades, but also pass every class so that I don’t have to retake any. I want to be able to graduate on time. It always gets hard when almost end of the semester. That is the time when teachers start to give out more work. It’s a good idea but the same time bad. It can help bring grades up for some people. Most people are lazy so they rather not do it and fail the semester. My challenge was trying to focus with so many distractions in the way.…
Academically, school has been “a breeze” for me. Academics is not something I have much trouble in. I do not have to put in a lot of effort into school to do well, although if it were required of me, I would do so. I am not lazy or passive with my education. Rather, I put in the effort required of me.…
I was in AP/Honors courses, playing Varsity soccer, volunteering at least 5 hours a week, and working part time. Although this was the most stressful time period of my life, it also helped me grow. I learned a lot about time management that year. Every year since then I find myself complaining less and less about school, because overall I know that I can handle it. Junior year I had the lowest GPA of my whole academic life, yet, I worked the hardest.…
I encountered problems such as finding a balance between social life and education. In the beginning of the semester I struggled to stay devoted to my academics because I wanted to do this and do that. I wanted to go out with my friends, go downtown, etc. I also struggled with motivation to complete my work efficiently. I struggled with time management.…
One has to approach school as an added duty in one’s life. I must add an extra responsibility to my daily chores and activities. I am venturing into an activity I have not done any schooling for over 30 plus years now. School is something I must learn all over again. This changes our everyday routines to a point that we all must learn to work well with this new education. I am glad that in the past I had learned great tools to work with while working on these new responsibilities. Making it great while I was getting my A.S. degree in Florida Tech College out of Orlando, FL. Back then everything was paper and pencil or pen. Now I see an all new era of schooling and especially online. I force myself to get things done early, just like I do when I need to be somewhere for an appointment. I arrive much earlier than requested so I have time to sit and plan what will be going on at this appointment. I turn that into the same here with my online class. I don't like to be late for anything even dinner at home. Work on my college activities and required assignments take on the same aspect that I apply to my personal life. Both must be taken on with kid gloves. But as long as I keep in mind the goals created for school and stick to them I should have no trouble working out any obstacles that come my…
I feel as if my external distractions as an adolescent led to difficulties in my academics, which resulted in my struggle to graduate to high school. However, these struggles have helped me to grow as a student as well as appreciate my education here at Cal State Monterey Bay. After a rough start back at my local Junior College in Modesto, I managed to get focused…
Describe the most significant challenge you have faced and the steps you have taken to overcome this challenge. How has this challenge affected your academic achievement?…
My father immigrated to the United States at the age of 30 and has held many low income jobs in order to support my family. Because of the work he does, he has herniated discs, and, several years ago, he had a heart attack and now has several medical conditions. Because he is unable to work, and receives disability, my family has received government assistance.…
My greatest challenges going to college are time management and the transition from what I was used to in high school. I'm not used to doing 6-9 hours of homework just for one class, in high school the most I did for each classes was about 15-25 minutes, and if I did not feel like doing it at that time, I'd have study halls, which college doesn't have to do it. Doing that much work for just one class means that I don't have enough time to have a social life or spend time with family, or do physical activities, which for me takes 1-2 hours. Having no life and just do school work will drive someone insane. Not having physical activities could deteriorate my health conditions, and really drive me into depression. The transition from high school to college is hard to say the least. I'm not used to having to remind myself of when works are due, I have to be responsible for myself and I am not very responsible. The only way to overcome these challenges would be realizing that I can't handle a 15 credit semester, but I will still do the work that the professors said to do. I want my grades to reflect who I am and what I am capable of. I will…
Throughout the years, I have never struggled academically. I was able to pass almost every class with at least a B letter grade with little to no effort. But my junior year was a complete flip of what I was accustomed too. I was aware that my junior year was going to be difficult because of the amount of Advanced Placement classes I enrolled in, but I was not mentally prepared for the school year. I realized that…
In any education setting, teachers will come across a wide variety of obstacles throughout their career. These obstacles will differ in each and every classroom, depending on students’ social, cultural and ethnic background. It is vitally important as a teacher to overcome these obstacles to ensure that the students within your class are able to gain the highest possible outcomes, a quality education and enjoyment from their schooling. Some of the many obstacles that a teacher may face in a classroom setting include development abilities both academically and socially, behaviour problems and unmotivated students.…
Measurable and relatively permanent change in behavior through experience, instruction, or study, Hughes, M. and Vass, A. (2001). Learning itself cannot be measured, but its results can be. In the words of Harvard Business School psychologist Chris Argyris, learning is "detection and correction of error" where an error means "any mismatch between our intentions and what actually happens." Research and practice highlights that young carers can face many barriers to their learning, both at school and at home. Psychological or emotional barriers, financial constraints, systemic barriers and societal barriers are some of the barriers that inhibit learning and they manifest in different situations. Anything that may stand in the way or prevent the learner to fully participate and learn effectively can thus be seen as a barrier to learning. It is important to remember that barriers do not necessarily exist all the time, but can arise suddenly, due to change in circumstances, emotional trauma and a variety of other factors.…
When thinking about something that is important to me in education I automatically thought about what I have enjoyed through out all of my years in schooling. Art has been something that I have enjoyed since I was a little girl and still enjoy today. Ever since I was little and walked into a toy store the first section I ended up at was the arts and crafts section. I always wanted to buy things like the paint set or the bracelet making kit. As I started to grow up I lost touch with art and focused most of my time on dancing. Now looking back I realize I didn’t “give up” on art but instead of using my hands to create art I was using my feet. Whether it was an art class or dance class the creative arts have always been a very important part of my life. I decided for the I-Search project to focus on the arts in elementary education. What I know about this topic is that art and music are always the first classes to be cut from a school and the teachers who teach those subjects are always the first people to also be cut from the school. I also know that art is not an actual subject and just an elective. I started college as an Art Education major and since the program is so small I didn’t make it in. I have had to change my major as a junior. At first this was devastating but I have found many positives in my new major, which is Elementary Education. Just like the arts and those teachers being cut from schools, I have felt the same disappointments within the world of art and this is why I want to learn more about it.…
The biggest limitation I’ve struggled with through my education is having a learning disability. According to the National Center for Learning Disabilities, “a learning disability is more than a “difference” or “difficultly” with learning-it’s a neurological disorder that affects the brains ability to receive, process, store and respond to information” (NCLD). Especially in middle school and high school is when school was not a top priority for me and I soon realized that was a mistake. It wasn’t until my junior year of high school I started gaining the motivation to do well in school and begin to think seriously about my future after high school. In the reading, “The Joys of Reading and Writing: Superman and Me” Sherman Alexie says, “I refused to fail. I was smart. I was arrogant. I was lucky.” That quote explains this time in my life perfectly, I became determined to do better in school for myself because I knew I was smart enough and I deserved a brighter future. Once junior year started, I began testing for the ACT. After not scoring very high I became devoted to a private tutor three times a week after school during the first half of my senior year. I was determined to raise my score because I knew my GPA alone wasn’t going to get me into the college of my choice. As much time and effort I put in to raising my…
