Communication skills are very important to personal or professional life. Manuscriptedit (Dec.2011) says, “Communicating the intended message clearly and effectively is an important skill, which is often a key factor in deciding the chances of success.” I feel I need to improve that skill, maybe because I’m a leaner of the English language - which isn’t my mother one - and I feel like my vocabulary needs to be improved. College is being a great help though but even before I was organising my time and taking a few hours during the week to read a book, newspapers or magazine.…

I stared becoming better day by day and started going to library to read books. I also Google translate, that I used to enter the words in my language and Google translates that into English for me. That helped my a lot to emphasize on my vocabulary and…
In English I wrote a letter to my parents were I was not good at writing and speaking. Also, I notice that when I read my paragraphs it wouldn't make sense I was a terrible writer my paragraphs wouldn't focus in one thing. I think I have gotten better at writing and speaking because when I read the gratitude letter to my teacher, friends to correct me and correct the mistake that I made in my rough draft. I have improved by reading it to other persons. Also so when I used to read it to my parents I would stutter and get nervous.so that's how I improved in my speaking, writing. Also, the part I need to improve was in my listening because I wouldn't listen when people would correct me. I wouldn't listen to them when they were speaking or giving lessons how to get better in speaking, writing. so that I would improve. I now listen to people that give me lessons on how to write, speak better because they hear me and read my paragraphs. So now I improve in a lot of things because I get lesson from other people. If I wouldn't listen to people that give me advice about my paragraphs I don't know where I'll be right now. So that how I have grown in the different sections of skills for academic…
Similar to other students, each of my five strengths has a significant influence on my life at Grace as well as my studies. First of all, being an achiever clearly empowers me to pursue my dream of becoming a teacher. A few of the characteristics of an achiever are great stamina, productive, and a hard worker; these will definitely benefit me in the coming years. Also, this strength will aid me in my goal of attaining good grades during my college time. No matter what, I always put my best effort into my work. I generally do what is asked of the teacher/professor without even thinking as well as do anything necessary in order to pay attention to what is being taught which more than likely will be an advantage for me.…
By analysing my recent report card (mid-semester 2, 2017) I have discovered several improvements that I have taken into consideration. I have also received good feedback from my teachers concerning my seven subjects. Throughout these subjects (Math, Science, Indonesian, English, Visual art, HPE) I have displayed the seven PLP capabilities, but as always, there is still room for improvement. My literacy skills were shown through my English course in which the teacher said I am “able to write well-constructed paragraphs to develop an argument” and can “create her own justified interpretations.”…
I was not born in America and I came here at tender age being able to speak, read, and write in a different language, Cambodian. I had to learn English to assimilate with a new country but I had little help. My mother had an intense schedule everyday in order to get her three child to three different schools, work, and make food for us. My sister and brothers had their own problems with the language so the only support I receive for my english is from school. However, my school was not sufficient so I had to go to the library. That is where I learn the language well enough to survive. The library had tapes of certain books and that was what I started out with. From there on, I developed my bank of vocabulary, developed my skills in context clues, and started comprehending the world in English. As a result of this, I could understand, read, and write in English proficiently but I came lacking in my reading aloud and speaking skills. I had notice as I grew up that I could not read as well as others nor could as fast or as easily without stuttering. My journey to overcome the language barrier was not something I could tackle all at once but it was a process in which I work on the skills that I am lacking…

Now I have completed my first college essay. I have learned that college writing is definitely not as simple as it seems. In college writing, you have the freedom to expand your thoughts on paper without having to follow the five paragraph formula. Moreover, I have identified my strengths and weaknesses as a writer. My strengths are vocabulary, sentence structure, and opening with an interesting introduction. Also, I do not lose focus on the topic at hand and explain my points in details through the essay. On the other hand, my weaknesses are not writing concise and precise sentences and organizing my paper. However, I have obtained strategies that will turn my weaknesses to strengths. One strategy is revising. I usually do not take the time…
At the young age of nine, my father who has been living in America for many years, decided to bring my siblings and I to travel across the continent to live with him. For the first nine years of my life, I had learned to live and practice the Filipino culture and speak its native language, Tagalog. However, in just a blink of an eye everything was about to change. As I arrived to America, I instantly had to learn the American culture as well as comprehend and speak the English language. With the tremendous influence from my family, school teachers and tutors, and reading countless literacy books, my English composition and comprehension have immensely improved.…
I find writing a very neutral subject because I am not terrible nor excellent at it. I have always written enough for it to be satisfactory. Therefore, I believe that one of my strengths as a writer is being able to understand what I have to write about and knowing what I want to say. I question myself every step of the way, asking myself “ Is what I am writing, answering the topic that I am addressing?” However, with that said, I believe that my weakness lies in that fact that I cannot put my thoughts into words. I have a vast amount of ideas that never get a chance to come alive on paper. I feel that I am not very good at transitions and sentence structures. Another weakness is that it takes me an awful long…
During this composition course I have learned many things, and I have overcome many bad habits. Writing use to be one of my least favorite things to do because of how bad I was at it. Now that I have learned new tips and tricks about writing I find it more enjoyable. During this course my writing habits have changed, some of my weaknesses in writing turned into my strengths, my overall paper writing skills have improved, and many more things. Another thing that was very beneficial to my writing was the different writing prompts that we did. These prompts would all make you use different writing skills and techniques. Overall this course was a big help towards my writing skills.…
Over the quarter of this semester I have completed a total of three essays. Throughout my coursework I have been able to identify my strengths and weaknesses as a writer. Going through graded papers I have identified my strengths to be using sensory language well to convey a vivid picture, using proper verb tense, and organization of an overall paper. However, I frequently struggle with comma errors and using transitions to create cohesion throughout an essay.…
Assessment one was used to try and identify some of our writing strengths and weaknesses. One of my main weaknesses way my lack of planning, drafts and editing. Because I started the assessments late I would run out of time, my work was rushed and my writing was not clear and concise. From assessment one I set myself a timetable, began the remaining assignments in advance and allowed numerous drafts and editing. I always finishing my last draft a week prior to submission so that I had a week to re-read, edit, and touch up. I used all resources available such as online grammar websites, online turn it in to check for plagiarism, and friends or family. I think this helped as my tutor’s comments on assignment two said my writing was “of good academic…
