How has nature vs. nurture affected my life? Nature and nurture affect my life every day and it has affected me all my life, its everywhere. The family I was born into, the friends I hang out with, the television I watch, and the beliefs I have. All that is Nature vs. nurture, and now I am going to give you some examples. Nature: refers to heredity, the genetic makeup an individual carries from the time of conception to the time of death. This notion of nature refers to the biologically prescribed tendencies and capabilities individuals possess which may unfold themselves throughout the course of life. Some examples are hair color, height, body type and eye color. I was born into a larger family, my mom and dad are both overweight, so if I don’t try my best to stay in shape I will most likely be overweight, but that’s motivation is them because I don’t want to be overweight. Another thing is my mom is about 5 “6 and my dad is around 6 “3 so I am most likely going to be around 5”11 when I grow up. Both my parents have brown eyes and so do I, and also brown hair as do I also. Nurture: by contrast refers to various external or environmental factors to which an individual is exposed from conception to death. My grandpa and grandma both smoke, so when I am over there I am exposed to second hand smoke, which is not healthy for me and I’ve been around them all my life. And by having that around me a lot makes me not want to smoke because I smell like cigarettes every time I go over there. The media has an effect on me to, because I love watching sports center and watching that makes me want to go outside and shoot hoops or play catch because I just got done watching basketball or baseball, causing me to get some exercise in my day, or it can motivate me to go exercise so I can be the best I can.
