Nclex Reflection
1. To prepare for the NCLEX-RN, I plan to devote the months of May and June to studying. I intend to spend the majority of my time going back through my notes from all of the semesters and making note of things that I will need to refresh on again just prior to taking my NCLEX. As of now, I don’t feel as though this is something that may be unrealistic however, I understand once I get into actually studying my plan may change. I also have a Kaplan NCLEX book I plan to utilize to prepare for this exam, as well as using online resources such as U-World. As of this moment, I am unsure if I will be able to participate in the Hurst review but, I am still looking into my options.

Study time for me requires minimal noise and complete concentration. Normally, I stay in my bedroom and study until I am tired or do not feel as though I am concentrating as I should. Of course, I do take breaks during this time to avoid becoming overwhelmed and may even take a nap to allow myself to re-energize. Fortunately for me, my house is completely silent during the day, which is something I require to be able to concentrate. This pattern has proven successful thus far, as this is my normal study routine. At this time, I have no other obligations other than completing my new employee orientation and beginning work during the time period I plan to study for my NCLEX. My family knows how important it is for me to study and pass my NCLEX, so they normally allow me to have space and try to be as accommodating as possible.
As far as learning techniques go, I have tried to make my notes as detailed as possible throughout each semester because I have planned on utilizing them to study for my NCLEX since beginning nursing school. I also try to think critically while studying and outside of the box to determine how things are connected and what interventions may be beneficial. Additionally, I benefit from utilizing online videos and mnemonics while

Critical thinking is a learned skill that as students, we’ll be acquiring little by little. The more I find myself practicing critical thinking questions, the better I will be prepared for the NCLEX upon graduation. My short term goals in regards to practice and education is to obtain my BSN. After graduation this summer I plan on completing my ACLS, PALS, and stroke certification. Within the next year I would like to complete my Medical Surgical certification as well. Before starting my Masters in Nursing Informatics in May I hope to be able to follow a few Nurse Informatics Specialists so that I can see what is done on a daily basis. After leaning about each concept in Nursing 201 I have become more competent than before about the profession of nursing in areas such as evidence based practice, patient centered care and many other areas. I think after learning about patient centered care and the nurse-patient communication I am better prepared to interact with patients. Some things that I find to be especially helpful are to not ask close-ended questions or anything that will result in a simple yes or no, use general leads, use silence and to paraphrase and reflect what the patient says.…

Throughout my nursing career up until this point I have not thought about way I practice nursing the way I do. I have always been a caring person. A nurse that is always willing to help anyone that required my assistance. Always going above and beyond the call of duty to make sure my patient is taken care of. These are some of the reasons why I became a nurse. My style of nursing has not changed over the semester but I was made to think about and develop my personal philosophy of nursing. To provide holistic care, applying the concept of caring, health, environment, being the patients advocate and making sure the patient receives the best care possible to promote optimal health within their environment. The patient must be the nurse’s…

Finding time to study is tough, with a twenty-month old running around. I wish I could freeze time and just play with him! Sometimes, it is so hard to focus and I lose my time to study. I have started going other places to study. I am taking my teachers’ advice and picking up my books and going to the library, or I will lock myself in my room and turn on the television to drown out the noise of everyone around me. So far it has worked. I hope it continues.…

The three study strategies I have and will use during this course to increase my effectiveness are having a quiet place to study, reading for clarity, and taking notes while reading. I have found that studying in a quiet place helps me to concentrate better. Also, while studying in a quiet place I do not have to worry about any distraction which allows me to understand what I am reading because I am able to answer the questions I originally had while after I surveyed what I was about to read. Note taking is also a study strategy that helps me increase my effectiveness in this course because I am able to refer back to my notes before completing assignments.…

The three study strategies that I have chosen are Recite, Rehearse, and Write, Study during short, frequent sessions, and using flash cards. Recite, Rehearse and write is a way of learning the material by respectively reviewing it repetitively. Study during short, frequent sessions is a way to gain the knowledge by reviewing the material in short intervals, leaving it for a short period of time and then returning to go over it again. Using Flash cards is a process that uses visual cues to help the intake of information that you are studying.…

My test study method: I make outlines, and write out the key terms. I look at my notes sometimes during the weeks before the test. I make sure that I have it all down the night before the test, and the next morning I get up for a 2 hour cram study session to get it fresh in my head for the test that day. It works for me most of the time, but I am not the best test taker in the world, I get too nervous! So I study as hard as I can and that's the best I can do as long as I've tried my best.…
