New Song Academy New Song Academy is a unique public school located in Baltimore City that is committed to making a long-term investment in the lives of neighborhood youth and their families. New Song is committed to developing independent learners through an inquiry-based instructional model. The school features dedicated teachers, strong parent involvement, and small class size in a culture of empathy and caring. New Song’s mission statement: New Song community learning center is committed to developing and empowering leaders from the Sandtown-Winchester community by providing year-round educational opportunities for children, youth, and their families. The school has 140 students in grades Pre-K through 8th. The school has 13 teachers and a total of 19 staff members. The school is located in Baltimore City in a community with a lot of hardship and crime. The school is a safe-zone for the students and a positive learning environment. The school provides special programs like dance, extended day, an extended school year, expeditionary learning, inquiry-based instructional model teaching, and a college-career program. The school also does amazing programs during the holidays for the students and their families. New Song gives students a turkey and pie for Thanksgiving and during holidays the students receive things like clothes, food, and other gifts. These programs show that New Song Academy is unlike any other school, especially in Baltimore City. The school and staff genuinely care about each and every student on a personal level. The school opened in 1997 and it first had grades 5th-8th. Allen and Susan Tibbles is a white couple that moved into the community with two daughters. Allen was paralyzed from the neck down, and has recently passed away but is known as a hero in the community. They tried to enroll their oldest daughter into a near buy school and the principal
