New Year’s Resolutions

Why is it so hard to keep a New Year’s resolution? Do we make unrealistic goals for ourselves? Or do we make our resolutions right before the clock strikes 12 without really thinking them through? Even know I haven’t been very good at keeping my resolutions for the New Year in the past, I am firm about keeping and following through with my promises therefore three resolutions that I am determined to follow through on are to getting my license, exercising daily, and applying to colleges.

First, getting a license is a big deal in a teenager’s life. In this New Year, 2014, I am setting a goal for myself to get my license. I already have my permit, so I am one step closer to reaching my goal. Getting my license would benefit my parents. I could help them out with grocery shopping or running other errands while their busy. It would benefit my siblings as well. I could pick them up from school if they don’t want to ride the hour long bus ride home, or drop off my little brother at preschool if my mom needs to get stuff done around the house. I could also help my mom out when my siblings go out. 10 pm is usually to late for them to pick up my 13-yearold siblings at a friends house, so I could pick her up. Having my license would benefit me as well. I wouldn’t have to ask my mom for a ride to a friend’s house, so I could drive myself. Getting my license would not just benefit me, but would also benefit my parents and siblings.

Second, experts all over the world recommend exercising daily. Another goal I have is to begin exercising daily. It would help strengthen my core, which would help with many things that are going on with my body. It would help with the constant stomach pains I have. My doctor recommended that I do excersices that strengthen my core, but I keep holding it off. Exercising daily would also help with staying healthy. I want to be as healthy as possible. Exercising would also build up my immunity. I also

Teens not being able to drive will be a substantial burden on parents. With the constant flow of after school activities, such as, sports, music, clubs, and work, there needs to be more than two drivers in the household. Parents often are at work when the extra activities are taking place and cannot afford to take time from their job. When teens are able to drive it alleviates this burden by allowing them to drive themselves. High school students can also help their parents out by chauffeuring their siblings. Adults would no longer…

If the driving age stays the same many teenagers could rely less on their parents. Some teens have parents who work constantly so that could limit them from doing after school activities such as practices and other things if they do not have a license. With little siblings teens could help parents shuttle little siblings around - or help with chores such as grocery shopping. Most teens like going places with…

If adolescents are mature enough, now, to get their school permit at 15, they are mature enough to get their license. Most kids turn 15 their freshman year of high school, which means a lot of responsibility is put on them. This will allow students to be careful with their driving, because they will get the privilege of driving at 15. Another plus to letting kids get their school permits at 14 is that parents won’t have to won’t have to get off of work to get their kids from extra-curricular activities, and students that walk home, even in the dead of winter, won’t have to…

Lastly, teenagers actually dislike the idea that they have to depend for their parents for everything. We don't like asking our parent to chauffeur us everywhere, especially up to the point we graduated from high school. Once we graduated from high school, would the parents still want us to move up to the real world without a license ?! So learning how to drive at a young age is one of the biggest steps to adulthood and the age for driving shouldn't be…

Most teenagers consider their driver’s license as their ticket to independence. With a driver’s license, minors are able to drive themselves around whether it’d be to school, work, or other activities. A driver’s license for a minor could also mean, tragic car accidents, night out at drinking parties with friends, vandalism, drug use, gang violence, and trespassing. The question we ask ourselves is, whether people under 18 be subjected to legal curfews or restricted driving privileges? Minors or those under the age of eighteen should be subjected to legal curfews and should have restrictions on their driving privileges.…

A major event in my life that marked a transition from childhood to becoming an adult is when I got my driver's license. Getting your driver’s license is the first taste of true freedom that most 16 year olds get to experience. However, with great privileges comes responsibility and the ability to take on that responsibility. When I went to take my driving test, I was extremely nervous and a bit scared. I wasn’t nervous or scared of the actual test, but the pressure that I put on myself to succeed on the first try as did my two older siblings. Turns out I did pass and I can still remember how I felt on that April day. The feeling of accomplishment and joy that fell on me that day was unbelievable. After I got home from the DMV, I drove myself accompanied by my little sister around the neighborhood. Driving around that night for the first time without an adult made me realize the freedom that I was given from having my license. Along with the freedom comes the responsibility of your passengers and yourself to return safely and the trust given by your parents for this privilege and not…

Three fitness goals that I have for this school year are: 1) to stop consuming all the junk food I possibly can but not all at once, day by day; slowly decreasing the amounts of candy or chips that I eat because I know that it will be a hard task so I would prefer to adapt to it slowly, 2) Instead of watching TV, I want to get up off the couch more and improve on my workouts, which I rarely ever even do. 3) Lastly would be to pick water as a beverage more often with my meals instead of having unhealthy sugary drinks.…
